May 19th 2009 4:20PM Great podcast guys...I enjoy it every week. There's been quite a few mentions on several podcasts on how the PS3 is definitely not the go to source for Blu-Ray material. What I've been missing is why? I'm not necessarily disputing that statement, just curious if you're stating it strictly based on the price, disc load time or actual appearance? What other reasons are there...besides mounting it to a wall? I think I've heard Steven mention that the crossbar interface was poor or confusing...I wouldn't think anyone on this site would have a problem navigating through it if my wife can. I've had my PS3 for about a year, but would not consider myself a gamer, though I do have a couple. Besides BD content (no complaints), I personally get much use out of it for streaming music for family gatherings (easy to do a genre shuffle), viewing pictures (the PS3 game controller makes it so simple to zip through them while rotating them on screen for proper viewing orientation and also zooming in), downloading game demos (the length of the demo is usually the only amount of time I have to invest in a game anyways) and also viewing any movie clips I've taken on my digital camera (not HD, but still fun to share). I upgraded the HDD to 250gb, so I also implement the "rip and return" to the HDD so I'm not popping in discs all the time. I've found it very convenient with the one exception of the disc load times...which apparently isn't too bad in comparison to the many BD players out there. I'd like to know what I'm missing from a standalone BD player? Thanks!

Jan 14th 2009 5:40PM LD...laughable? It was the elite medium of it's time. It was the only way to get widescreen movies for the longest time. First to deliver 5.1 AC-3. Audio commentaries. Chapter search. Deleted scenes. All of which paved the road to what we love today. And yes, I worked at a laserdisc store for seven years while in college in the O.C.. I was the one laughing at VHS...how could anyone watch those things??
Verizon FiOS HD DVR Review {Engadget HD}
Dec 29th 2008 5:05PM "Sure, you can select a provider just based on the DVR, but seriously, who does that?"...Me!! I pulled the trigger on HD last June and had the dilemma of finding an HD provider for a seasoned DirecTiVo user. I didn't want the extra fees associated with cable and a separate TiVo box subscription as I've had the DirecTV integrated one for years (SD of course). This left it down to DirecTV DVR or Dish DVR. I had tried the SD DirecTV DR box awhile back for another room and sent it back within a week and bought another DirecTiVo box. All reviews stated it was still very similar for the HD one. Dish's 722 had raving reviews and I'm extremely pleased with leaving my decision up to the DVR experience/navigation. I must note that I'm not into sports, otherwise I probably would have been forced to accept DirecTV's DVR...that would have been unfortunate. Indeed, I have a two key HD channels missing from my lineup that's available on the other side, but I do have the external 750gb HDD, dual live buffers, OTA hookup for extra simultaneous third recording option and the "HD only" package for $49. Yes, I heard the prices are going up...ughh!!!
On a side note, by brother-in-law just got into HD and went with DirecTV's DVR. I can't stand it. Just one quick gripe: I hit the "Guide" button very frequently on the Dish 722 for which it brings up HD only channels. There is this option for DirecTV, but as soon as you select a channel, then hit "Guide" again, it goes back to all channels. You have to manually change it to "HDTV" each time you enter the guide. Maybe there's a setup somewhere else that will makes it the default, but I didn't have any luck finding it.

I'm a newbie to the podcast and only 6-months in with my HDTV and PS3. I'd very much like to learn more about getting shows from torrent sites on my PS3. Can you provide or direct me to a walk-thru process of how to get all of this working? Thank you!
