Circuit City fails to be wanted, will now be liquidated {Engadget}

Jan 18th 2009 9:52AM FYI. Best Buy has their list of competitors and I believe Circuit City was only like 3 or 4th on the list. Walmart, Target, and Dell are more competitors to Best Buy than Circuit City is. Sure, CC prices on movies/gaming/music was really head to head with BB, but BB's prices are more reflective of trying to win customers over walmart and target. They strive on sales knowledge (how many times did CC have meetings directly based upon trainings? The BB i know of sometimes have them more than once a month.) and service. I don't care what anybody says, but Best Buy does offer better personalized service than most retailers out there.

Best Buy also makes a living through change. They ask their customers what they want and what could make their store better. If Best Buy didn't change, it wouldn't survive. Circuit City barely changed over the past years. I completely agree that it depends on what store you go to in order to see if their Customer Service is terrible. There is a BB by me that has absolutely amazing customer service, then only 10 miles away there is one with the worst service possible. The same can go for CC.

Its a shame that all these employees are going to be losing their jobs, but in the end I have to say its because Circuit City didn't change. They were not focused around the customer but instead they were focused about getting the better deal. Sure, everybody here is most likely deal hunters, but at the same time consistent deals do not make a company profitable. Affordable prices and great service is what makes a company survive, not creating bargains left and right. That is why Best Buy is still here.
