Oct 7th 2009 5:15PM It's really a matter of how larger you want to go with your television. If you are doing 32' inches to 42' inch LCD's are great, but anything 50 to 65inches I would do a Plasma. DLP's aren't bad if you want 75 to 82 inches. The 5.1 system is going to depend on the speakers and sound preference. There is a speaker for everyone out the there. I have both systems,I have to say the PS#3 is pretty nice when it comes to AQ and PQ, but the Xbox 360 is great for online playing. I love my system and it rocks when I game; the neighbors hate me (yes)!

Geek Squad home theater setup horror story {Engadget HD}
Mar 6th 2009 4:09PM Let's start at the beginning, I find this hard to believe because the guys in the white shirts and ties are the computer side of the Geek Squad. There is another side of the Geek Squad that are called GSR and they perform the HT installation part of Geek squad.
I feel for Diane, but if her receiver had all HDMI inputs then setup would have been simple. I don't know of too many people that have a 4.0 or 4.2 system. I understand 2.0, 2.1,5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 6.0, 6.1, 7.0,7.1, and 7.2. It's to my understanding if Best Buy really wanted to make money the would have advised Diane to get the best cables to make money that be HDMI.
Its sad, but Diane got herself an bad installer. One bad experience does not ruin the whole Geek Squad. The Geek Squad did an excellent job on my HT setup and I have pretty High End equipment.
If you need to learn a lesson from this, If you need Geek Squad services never be afraid to ask for the best tech they have to install anything and if that doesn't work get your money back!

Jan 23rd 2009 11:44PM They better not charge another dollar! Hell they need to send the movie that I have in my Queue. Its been weeks since I've seen a good Blu-ray and they charged me a $1.00 and the service is worst now than it was before. Charge me another dollar for watching something instantly and I'll drop Netflix.

Jan 18th 2009 6:50AM How are the viewing angles on the laser vue. I was interested in one of those, but with the changing technology in televisions now its hard to keep up. It is true you pay for what you get, but at the same time I have never heard any complain about their Pioneer Plasma. The Laser Vue is nice, but I need view angles. LCD's there are some good ones, but at the same time you have to spend so much money. It comes down to people have "Champagne taste and beer money!"

Jan 12th 2009 7:06PM Well if that is the case, I was wondering would they reimburse me for the energy that I paid in that past and if they will also give me money for a new television. That's only if I have to get rid of the one I currently own. I forgot they will probably blame it on the consumer.

Nov 26th 2008 9:11AM There's no problem, only thing you need to know is a tv that is HD needs a HD set top box from your local service provider and a HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) cable. It doesn't get any easier than that. Anything else you are just making things to complex. 5.1 and 7.1 deal with audio and if you don't have the speakers don't worry about it!

Nov 26th 2008 5:53AM Let me know how you got 7.1 TrueHD on your PS3. Your telling me that it Displayed TrueHD on the receiver. I have a Denon 3809 and it decodes my Panasonic BDP 30 without a problem, but my PS3 the only thing I get is PCM or DTS. Don't tell me it doesn't when its not even in the PS3 audio when you do the audio setup via HDMI. I know your going to say it does it, but if you have a receiver that does decoding then it would show up on your receiver.

Nov 26th 2008 5:22AM It's funny, I work for a retailer in the HT Department and 50 percent of the individuals I speak with don't even understand what HDTV really is. They act like they know everything about the HD television, but do not purchase service to support their television. They later come back to the store complaining that their television doesn't look like the ones in the store. Most people don't even understand the difference between digital and HD. They are just happy that they have a flat panel and can tell their friend they have a HDTV. You wouldn't buy a sandwich with out the bread. Understand something, if a station is not broadcasting in HD, then you can't get it over the air. Your digital programming is not High Definition and High Definition is a service that you have to pay for from your local service provider (Comcast, Verizon, or Direct Television). Please, speak to your service providers and ask them about HD and the set top box you need for HD. I truly understand the elderly people not understanding this, but anyone over the age of 30 not understanding this doesn't need a HDTV. Stay with your tube television with the Bunny Ears. It's technology and things change!
