Forget Black Friday -- $175 Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray player here now {Engadget HD}

Nov 7th 2008 3:38PM Hey Liqwid:

"horrible" is such a relative term. What makes it so bad? I got one over six months ago refurbished for $220 at a Sony store, and have been updating with the releases of each firmware along the way, and so far so good. What's the matter, can't use BD live and annoy your fellow fanboys? I do not know why all love to disparage a unit that so far has not had the problems that other 2nd genration players have demonstrated. I will admit that Baraka did not play until the most recent firmare released onm 10/31/08 (version 4.30) but works like a charm now, including the 007 flick For Your Eyes Only (which was also alittle buggy). For the money, it's an "ok" if not "good" player, certainly not horrible. Maybe you expect the best, but do you give your best? Just trying to be objective. No worries.

Poll: Are your new James Bond Blu-ray Discs acting up? {Engadget HD}

Nov 3rd 2008 4:12PM Along the lines of misbehaving blu-rays discs, I sport a Sony BDP-300 at home, with the latest firmware update (Version 4.20) and BARAKA will not play. Brought it back to BEst Buy and it played no prob on the $800 denon in the showroom. What gives?
