CEA checking out 3D@Home Consortium's requirements for interfaces, glasses technology {Engadget HD}
Nov 9th 2009 10:01PM I fear 3D will be implemented by force. TPTB know that general interest in 3D is low, so they'll make it compulsory.
Want that V10 Panasonic? Good blacks, 24P, THX, and coming 2010 3D!
Oh you don't want 3D tech? There's the Vizio for you then.
Same thing happened with cell phones. I've never used internet/camera/dictionary, but they come as part of the bargain when I buy a small phone with a long battery life.
Video: First working Blu-ray Managed Copy demo {Engadget HD}
Sep 11th 2009 4:39AM Wow. Annoying person asking questions rudely FTW.
Shut up and let the demonstration demonstrate.
Poll: Do you surf while you watch HDTV? {Engadget HD}
Sep 5th 2009 12:16PM I want that chair!

Sony introduces five new feature-packed, confusingly-named Blu-ray DVRs {Engadget HD}
Aug 28th 2009 6:25AM I can imagine the sense of frustration felt by my American cousins about being artificially limited by The Powers That Be.
How?
Because we non Americans are blighted by the scourge of region codes and higher priced hardware.
It's not enough that the USA has everything else (democracy, freedom of speech), now you want our pathetic overpriced DVR's lol
Kogan hopes you'll spend stimulus bucks on Kevin37 HDTV {Engadget HD}
Mar 8th 2009 1:26AM I always wondered what it would be like to be governed by a socialistic yet overtly religious, poll driven, economically plundering, self absorbed pseudo intellectual policy wonk.
I give you Prime Minister Rudd.
$900 for doing... nothing. Where do I sign up for this gravy train? Keep those printing presses fired up.
Europe to see HD broadcast of Obama's inauguration {Engadget HD}
Jan 13th 2009 10:53AM It will be on the TV, it will be in the newspaper, it will be on the radio, it will be on the internet.
I guess I could turn into a hermit for a couple of days...
Just put the shoe on the other foot, and think about if you had some random foreign head of state show ponied around like the second coming on every available medium. There is no "out" for this kind of rubbish - this is "history" and you'd better go along and roll around in it OR be a temporary hermit.
Of course a 30 sec bit on the news is warranted, we are a global community. But to have "live" coverage and dedicated lead up shows on nearly every medium is obnoxious.
Hmm, el Presidente Vasquez on the majority of TV stations, newspapers and radio in the USA. Not going to happen anytime soon. And if it did, you'd be whinging too.

Jan 13th 2009 6:56AM Wow. Could you have any more American imperialism shoved down the world's throat.
But it is in HD...
Australia's Seven, Nine and Ten not leaping to add new digital channels {Engadget HD}
Jan 3rd 2009 7:29PM @gargravarr
It will suck even more when those ducks swimming on a lake become pixelated ducks swimming on blocks as each network rams another stream onto an already overcompressed mux.
Akin to NBC with their useless weather stations and PBS with their sub streams.
"New" digital channels (ie repeated standard definition crap) = death of HDTV in Australia
Pioneer introduces 8x BDR-S03J Blu-ray burner {Engadget HD}
Nov 29th 2008 12:12AM MFM, BD drives at the top end will have a premium just like DVD burners did.
When BD read/write speeds top out, they will undergo a similar price drop at the top end, just like DVD burners did.
A $399 top end BD drive, will now mean the former top end will fall down in price. Just like CPU models do today.
Now as for the burner itself, if it does dual layer at the same speed at single layer, that is amazing.
CNET UK hosts Blu-ray player load time shootout, PS3 wins {Engadget HD}
Nov 28th 2008 11:45PM Load speed is heavily dependent on drive speed. Since the PS3 only has a 2X read BD drive, it's limitation is not the CPU power but the ability to read data off the disc.
So, standalones will get faster than the PS3, and they won't have to have equivalent CPU speed. Tailored SOC and a 6X read drive will see them leap ahead.
As comparison DVD player from 1999 with 2004, so is BD player 2006 with 2011.
