Sep 30th 2009 6:59PM Calling Mark.... Last week, I bought a 4x BD-R 10-pack spindle at the local computer store for $19.95. That's below the $2 threshold. I am personally waiting for the BDR-205 to be available. I want one. I wish to offload some of my 8TB of TiVO HD content to Blu-ray. I was going to buy the 8x Pioneer BDR-203, but when I found out last week about the 12x burnerr, I decided to wait a little longer.

Sep 15th 2009 11:22AM Hmmm... I wonder if this thing has the codecs to allow it to read and display native Hi-Def .TiVO files???
I have been off-loading shows recorded in Hi-Def on my TiVo Series 3 to my desktop PC via TivoToGo. I then move those shows from the PC's hard drive to a Seagate 2TB Free Agent Extreme USB/eSata external drive. I like to save the entire season of some shows before I sit down to watch them. So, when it comes time to watch a series, I have to reverse the time consuming process.
It would be great if I can just hook my external hard drive to this little unit and have it display the TiVo HiDef files I recorded and saved to the external drive and not have to copy them back to the TiVo unit to watch them. If it does, might have to find more room on the shelf for another set top box.

Motorola debuts world's first retail DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems {Engadget}

I picked up this Motorola DOCSIS 3.0 Modem at Bestbuy.com a couple of weeks ago for $115.
I have Comcast Cable which has been advertising service up to 50Mbps with a DOCSIS 3.0 modem. So, I thought I would give 'em a try.
I current pay for their Blast! service, which ususally hits speedtest.net between 19 to 21Mbps on the download. 3.3 on the upload.
I worked with Comcast over the weekend to try out the modem at their highest 50 Mbps speed.
What was interesting was that although web pages seemed to pop up faster, the speedtest.net download test showed SLOWER speed.... About 13Mbps 3.5 on the upload.
I tried some other internet speed tests and saw no really speed difference with the DOCSIS 3.0 Modem, although the web pages SEEMED to pop up faster.
What was also interesting was that this Motorola modem, when slowed down to DOCSIS 2 speeds, was actually SLOWER then my old Linksys Cable Modem.
After determining that the speed difference wasn't worth the price at this time. I had Comcast put my Linksys Cable Modem back on line at the Blast! DOCSIS 2.0 level and returned the Motorola modem to Best Buy.
I might try again next year when Motorola and/or Linksys have version 2 of their DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modems and Comcast is offering triple play special with the DOCSIS 3.0 services.
