Buy a Toshiba HD DVD player - get three free HD DVDs {Engadget HD}

Oct 27th 2006 12:29PM Can't say I'm hugely bothered by the titles available... they're not ones I would ever actually consider buying myself, but hey, they're free.

HD DVD and Blu-ray released on October 24th 2006 {Engadget HD}

Oct 27th 2006 5:00AM I really dont get this idea that the majority of Blu-ray movies are crappy. There are plenty of movies available on the format that I would buy right now.

Admittedly, quite a few of them are also available on HD-DVD too..

However, if you regularly read High-def digest, you will know that there have been several BD-25 Mpeg2 disks released recently where the reviewer has highly praised the tranfser/PQ.

My point...I refuse to believe all the HD-DVD propaganda that mpeg2 makes Blu-ray inferior.

However, yes, I agree that there's not much point wasting space on a BD-50 disk when you don't have to. I would like to see studios going with either VC-1 or mpeg4 IF i can be proved conclusively that it is better than using mpeg2...just take a look at the MI:3 review on high-def digest...

Either way, I'm looking forward to some disks with brilliant PQ in both the main feature and the special features.

Finally, in a similar vein to Padriac's post above, may I point out another war...

AMD vs Intel: For years AMD was king (HD-DVD if you will...), but then Intel got better (read: Core 2 Extreme processors... Blu-ray) and is now looking to nail AMD to the wall.

Haha, that comment was really for our resident Blu-ray fanboy Dave...cos I admit it's not the greatest analogy in the world.

Philips' BDP9000 Blu-ray player now on sale {Engadget HD}

Oct 25th 2006 7:18PM "perhaps that should have been mentioned too so as to not make this editory seem pro-blu-ray?"

You're an idiot. Would you be complaining if Erik had written an article to inform us all of a new HD-DVD player on sale? I think not.

Another predictor says Blu-ray will be the victor {Engadget HD}

Oct 24th 2006 5:42AM "Whoever you are that posted the above erroneous info, sorry but I was there and know firsthand"

Lol...I'm sure there's a joke there somewhere ;)

Blu-ray first to market in the UK {Engadget HD}

Oct 19th 2006 5:15PM I was in a large UK retailer today but could I find a Blu-ray player?...No

Guess if you've got the cash to blow on a 1000 player (Note: I have not), you'll find one online somewhere.

Personally, I'll be getting my HD fix when Sky get around to doing some sort of deal on their HD box or Sony release the PS3... whichever comes first.

Review: Series3 TiVo {Engadget HD}

Sep 27th 2006 3:32PM Kevina/MHAithaca:

Save your breath. Although Ben isnt as bad as Matt on the spelling and grammar front (Matt, youre still using then instead of than weve been through this), what can we expect from guys who watch HDTV all day ;)

Xbox 360 HD DVD drive hitting States for $200 {Engadget HD}

Sep 27th 2006 3:25PM Well that UK price is significantly better than the 199 that had previously been rumoured.

Regardless, I wont waste my money on an Xbox 360, so I cant see myself wasting 129.99 on an HD-DVD add-on ;)

Welcome to EngadgetHD! {Engadget HD}

Sep 22nd 2006 8:12PM Ahhhhhh... everything's changed. I don't like change. There was nothing wrong with HD Beat (aside from Matt's HD-DVD lovin...)

It really doesnt help that I came here at 1am UK time after having a large amount of beer.

Superman Returns to DVD, HD DVD and Blu-ray Nov. 28th {Engadget HD}

Sep 22nd 2006 6:17AM TJ,

Surely it wont necessarily look better on BD... afterall, it depends on whether they both encoding it any differently right?

Who knows.... I hope that if they are going to actually bother putting it on a 50Gb disk that they actually intend on using most of that space.

Warner develops HD DVD/Blu-ray/DVD hybrid disc {Engadget HD}

Sep 19th 2006 3:04PM This sounds like the biggest load of bs to come out of this format war so far.

I reckon I have a better chance of winning the EuroMillions lottery draw than seeing something like this become a reality.

Never gonna happen.
