DISH Network unloads HD locals in a handful of new markets {Engadget HD}
Oct 14th 2008 12:56PM Dish will be adding more HD locals before the end of the year. They will soon start to focus on the west coast. All hd locals are added on the east coast because of their new eastern arc. If you think about it now as it stands you should take your side with dish and be patient. Direct will not have the space on their satellites to add the HD content that dish will have once they convert people east of the mississippi to the eastern arc 61.5/72/77which will have all eastern HD locals. And the western arc 110/119/129 which will service the other HD locals. Direct is lossing their rights to their transponders on the 110 and 119 satellites. So the slimeline dish is no longer, they will have a new dish just hitting 99/101/103. Not enought capacity at those spots to service 100% hd locals which is dishes goal with the eastern and western arcs.
DISH Network loses 25,000 net subscribers in Q2, sees revenue increase {Engadget HD}
Aug 15th 2008 11:54AM I install dish network and direct tv. At home i have dish network and if i'm installing a direct tv new customer and they ask me what i have at home I proudly state DISH NETWORK. Direct seems miles behind dish with their hardware, Directs DVRs suck to install, two cables from the dish to the receiver, come on dish has bandstacked their signal for years, and direct cant figure that out? I can't even tell you how many direct customers i have personnally converted to dish because i have shown them my system at home vip 722, vip 612 and a vip 211 all with external harddrives to them, off air hookups to them also. I can say i have converted about 10 customers to dish from direct the past two weeks. I dont sell them on Dish, i just state the many reasons why dish is superior, and you cant argue with that.
DISH to roll out 17 new HD channels on August 1st {Engadget HD}
Jul 16th 2008 7:57PM Nick what are you talking about?
" DiTV has obtained a reputation as being the HD capital of the world" Dish has for many years over 7 has more HD channels then Direct, until the past 5 or so months. I guess it doesnt take a long time for something to build a reputation in your eyes. The reality of the whole thing is that its good when dish gets more HD channels, because it pushes direct to get more HD channels and the cycle goes on and on. Capitalism at its best, which can only benefit customers. And I'll leave with the fact that DISH NETWORK HAS THE REPUTATION as being the best HD service provider. They have better choices for programming packages, better hardware period, not argument can be made :) Comparing the VIP 722 to direct's HD DVR is like comparing a computer (VIP 722), etchosketch (Directs DVR). Im sorry i had direct for years until the vip 722 came out and im not looking back at my days when i was naive thinking direct was on the cutting edge of technology.
