Nokia, cheesiness featured in new Star Trek movie {Engadget}

May 11th 2009 12:31AM Quote from article:
Do you like your Star Trek movies riddled with Beastie Boys songs and Nokia product placements?

------

Are you kidding me? One scene and you guys call it "riddled?" That's just funny guys. Did you watch the movie? I've seen it three times: there is only one scene with Nokia and one scene with the Beastie Boys.

As a lifetime Trekkie, I love this stuff. Just because WWIII happened does not mean society collapsed. Clearly it had an effect on the United States. However, California still exists, as there's a flag of California in the big meeting room at Starfleet Academy. I never bought the idea that private companies went away in the future. I think a more logical route is that there are many private-public partnerships.

Also, take note, the companies mentioned, Budwieser and Nokia aren't American companies (anymore).

The BlackBerry Storm ad that might have been {Engadget}

Feb 26th 2009 7:29PM Some of these people are posting as if the ad actually came out. There's a reason why RIM didn't release it. Someone in their promo department didn't like the ad for all the reasons people are saying (except for the fact that it's not very good compared to the iPhone; I don't think internally that's a concern. Of course they think their product is superior).

President Obama signs DTV delay bill into law {Engadget HD}

Feb 12th 2009 12:19AM Yes, there is money tucked away in the stimulus bill. At least, there was, in the House version. Republicans consider it waste in the stimulus package.

But, it was a pretty substantial amount of money, $650,000,000. See http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/F?c111:7:./temp/~c111lnFSBJ:e1068105:
