Oct 17th 2008 5:18PM is there any real info on this device? will google maps on my iphone 2G (jailbroken/unlocked/osX 2.1) be able to acces the geo data??? or just apps that are installed via cydia??? i want to be able to use it with google maps, itrail and all other apps that access the geo-location data on the iphone... in my region the WPS coverage is excellent, but i'd love to have GPS with my when on the go, in a plane/train/whatever...

App Store quietly changes review policy {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Sep 28th 2008 9:10AM i was wondering from day 1 why apple is allwoing people that had not purchased the app to comment...

and it was quite obvious @ some apps that many hadn't purchased the app, since the comments were so not on topic....

it think it's a good thing to not allow people who didn't purchase the app to comment...

Looking Forward to the 3G iPhone: GPS {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Aug 20th 2008 7:53AM WPS normally gets your location within 10-50m, sometimes only within 150m if there's no many wifi router beacons available...

if there's more than 4 wifi routers available to the iphone and in the skyhook database your position will be within 50m or better of your actual position...

and with the new iphone osX 2.x.x the WPS postioning will update automatically and move with you when your on the go, as long as you pressed the lower left button for the "locate me" feature and haven't moved the map, which will disable the auto tracking feature! in dense urban areas WPS in the iphone 2G will be almost as reliable and accurrate as the GPS in the iphone 3G!!!

Aug 20th 2008 7:46AM if you have screenshots of WPS in action on flickr, or are willing to post them to flickr please add them to the WPS location pool @ http://www.flickr.com/groups/iphonewps/

thank you;-)

Aug 20th 2008 7:44AM in general one can easily tell what location service is used:

radius of circle 1-4km = GSM cell tower triangulation (off by normally 150-1000m, sometimes much more)

radius of cicle 100-150m = WPS wifi positioning (off by about 10-150m)

blue dot with a semi transparent circle/radius of approx. 50-75m = GPS (A-GPS with help of WPS/GSM data to get a first fix on location, if no WPS/GSM data is available the first fix takes much longer, with WPS 1-5 seconds, w/o the first fix normally takes 20-120 seconds!!!)

Aug 20th 2008 7:38AM you have to enter your wifi routers MAC address in the skyhookwireless.com "add" page...

http://www.skyhookwireless.com/howitworks/submit_ap.php

use a sniffer like istumbler or airradar to get the mac address of the wifi routers around you... you can do this in all locations you feel that the WPS is off or incorrect, it takes 7 days for your data to make it into the skyhook database!
