Honda nav system offers weather, user-submitted POI deets {Engadget}

Oct 17th 2006 10:12AM I heard rumors their new NAV in the acural 2007 TL let you import contacts - but haven't gotten any new news on that - I would think that would be more useful for me. Not against the weather system - just not something I've been looking forward to as much as beaming the contacts from my outlook.

Sony's Altus 'phones offer 80kHz "HiFi" on the cheap {Engadget}

Oct 11th 2006 1:09PM I love my sennheiser HD600 headphones but I still am hoping that someone will eventually invent a audiophile set of wireless headphones with a decent S/N ratio. Even the best Sennheiser/Sony/Panasonic... still are pretty weak. I really think this is the future of headphone technology. WHile there are many wireless headphones none are really audiophile quality. They may have decent speakers but the S/N etc just don't even come remotely close to wired headphones.

Windows Mobile "crossbow" in the wild? {Engadget}

Oct 9th 2006 2:59PM I did think of two issues that are really issues with WM5 hopefully addressed in WM6/crossbow.

I recommend all my clients buy SPB Pocket plus - for better battery status display and the ability to customize the desktop.

I recommend all my clients who didn't get voice command on their phone to purchase it. Should have been part of the OS in my opinion. I know it could be sold seperately but you can be sure the Iphone will have it as part of the OS and then Windows will follow - why not just be a stand up company and do it now instead of always waiting for the competition to do something first?

Windows Mobile "crossbow" in the wild? {Engadget}

Oct 9th 2006 9:31AM I've had a PPC 2003 device and a WM5. I think WM5 is pretty good the biggest issues I have with it I can't be sure if they are with WM5 or my particular hardware manufacturer's fault. My device doesn't have enough on board memory - haven't seen any WM5 model with more. My screen doesn't always turn on properly - saw that in the only other model I've worked with. My Bluetooth sucks but some people say that is because of the MS BT stack.

The biggest issue may be with WM5 or it may be just with Voice Command. I had to use a registry hack to allow dialing by BT but it isn't as accurate as it needs to be.

HTC Herald unmasked {Engadget}

Oct 6th 2006 3:22PM mab,

Thanks but I think the other two units I listed at 13.5mm have set a bar, HTC is going to have to meet or surpass to blow any wind up my way.

Oct 6th 2006 1:30PM I'd love for HTC to consider making an additional unit really just aimed for people looking for THIN. They could ditch the camera and the keyboard (keep the light if they can - great flashlight).

Again I'm not saying they should stop making units with cameras or keyboards, just offer one more model for people who don't really use those things who want a very thin full PPC WM5 phone. Just as there are people who want the keyboard there are those who don't. A little more choice would be great!

Oct 6th 2006 1:28PM Getting better but still not thin enough.

If anyone doesn't believe that a few mm doesn't make a difference, put 4 more credit (grocery, etc) cards in your wallet and see if you notice it.

55-inch SED HDTVs on the way in '08 {Engadget}

Oct 3rd 2006 1:59PM While I'm all for SED technology, the size is just plain sad. Anything below 40" I think of adequate for a kitchen or a bathroom or great for a PC screen. Anything below 55" but greater than 40" is adequate for a small bedroom. Living rooms should be 65" minimum - 80" preferable. Let's face it, we've gone high def and now we've gone 1080p, and we did big screen for a while now. I'm hoping the second half of this decade we concentrate on BIGGER big screens. I saw the JVC 100" rear projection that actually is planned on being mass marketted,(as opposed to those 100-103" plasmas which seem to be just for trade shows and billionaires). I want to see 80" sub $5000 sets that look great by 2008 - anything else would just show we've been spending too much time watching TV and not enough time improving them.

I bought a 65" 1080i Mits about 3.5" years ago and it still does look as good as just about any TV rolling off the assemply line even today. It doesn't do 1080p which is a shame but DVDs look as good as any plasma or LCD as well as HDTV broadcasts. I'd love to move it to my bedroom and get an 80" SED to replace it.

The 1080p is a step in the right direction and SEDs (I saw them already) do look great but let's face it anything below 65" is a shame unless they are the low end option and the 80" screens are out by the end of 2008.

HTC gets official on their Q4 lineup {Engadget}

Sep 7th 2006 4:23PM E71 - if you want sleek - I'd check out the http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/23/tech-faith-wireless-sells-501-under-ubiquio-brand

I'm a little peeved at HTC as well. The 6600 was an opening trial in my opinion. What they should have learned was to put in a BETTER BLUETOOTH.

The 6700 has WM5 but the screen wasn't as bright, the BlueTooth still sucks and it is even THICKER than the 6600.

I don't think HTC is learning so I'm hoping for better luck with Samsung or UBiQUio

HTC gets official on their Q4 lineup {Engadget}

Sep 7th 2006 12:40PM I'm OK with them doing away with the keyboard if they could make something about 15mm or less that is a full WM5 device - NOT a smartphone. I use the screen too much, need to be able to run software for WM5 and need to edit documents. I use the touch screen most of the time. I understand they will make some with keyboards but for those of us who want slimmer - it would be great if they'd consider it.
