HANNspree's 28-inch 1080p HT09 LCD HDTV comes to America for $500 {Engadget HD}
Nov 24th 2008 7:58PM Why the hell would you need 1080p in that size?

Nov 18th 2008 12:41PM I LOVE my 52" DLP. great black levels, great response time, great resolution, and it's only an inch thicker than my buddies 42" LCD's stand mount. Besides, it's almost half the price of a plasma in the same size. It was way cheaper, considering I got it off craigslist for 600 bucks.
Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts text unreadable on SDTVs, no fix planned {Engadget HD}
Nov 6th 2008 7:55PM How many hardcore gamers are going to have a problem with this? If you give enough of a crap to be on a nex gen platform, you should be able to hit up craigslist and buy a 300 dollar TV.

Oct 26th 2008 11:10PM We need Jurassic Park on blu ray. Earlier this year I almost bought a laserdisc player off craigslist because I've found that the LD version of JP was better than the DVD (as many movies are), also 20 bucks for a player plus movies would've been cool. Too bad someone else got to it first. I'd pay good money to hear T-Rex bite the shit out of Jeff Goldblum in DTS-HD.
Passion of the christ? Don't christians usually spend money on collectible Dale Earnhart plates before buying consumer electronics? Honestly, that was the worst movie I ever saw, ever. No one would buy that on BD. Gone with the wind... The sort of people who watch that wouldn't buy it on BD. The only people I know who like that movie are all my older relatives and a smattering of my artsy friends and relatives. The common thread amongst all of them is that none of them owns an HDTV, much less a PS3.
The rest of them seem to make sense. I'd buy back to the future, alien, jurassic park, and I have amazon emailing me the second star wars comes out for preorder, and I still don't understand why lucas is willing to throw money at ruining the indiana jones franchise with the fourth one, but is not willing to throw the other 3 on BD.
DTV coupon requests surging in LIN TV blackout markets {Engadget HD}
Oct 26th 2008 6:57PM They're both greedy, money-hungry corporations, and either way, you, the customer are going to get screwed. If LIN charges TWC 1 million a month, and TWC has 1 million subscribers, TWC will charge you an extra 2 bucks a month to receive those channels.
It's a well agreed upon fact that cable companies are evil. Satellite companies are less evil because there's at least one direct competitor in their market. I say it's time to subsidize fiber so that there are at least 2 direct competitors in the wire game.
Analyst predicts "dramatic" drop in Blu-ray sales during Q4 {Engadget HD}
Oct 20th 2008 7:02PM Why are you guys paying 40 bucks for a new release? That's ridiculous! You obviously have the internet, buy from amazon. Are you so tied to your f-ing wal-marts that you can't order something online? Have to pick up your Dale Earnhart collector's mug at the same time as your discs? The Iron Man blu ray, the most popular blu ray to DATE is only 25 bucks on amazon. That's not bad considering that the 2-disc DVD is 22 and contains the same extras as the blu ray! If you're stupid enough to go to a B&M store to buy your stuff, the DVD, not the blu ray, but the DVD costs at least 20 bucks, and 30 for the special edition.
And if you spend more than 25 bucks, you get free shipping. I'm glad to pay the extra 5 bucks (that's all it is folks) to have 1080p and PERFECT audio. Have you heard the lossless track on iron man? God's own voice couldn't be much cooler. You won't be getting that on vudu any time soon.
Big content wants everyone to abandon blu ray because they make a killing off not having to make discs and relicensing and such.
Sony bigwig balks at "five year" Blu-ray demise prediction {Engadget HD}
Sep 25th 2008 8:30PM I'll be sticking with blu ray until comcast removes the BS bandwidth cap, thank you very much. Digital downloads won't be a threat to anyone until they can download 10 of them without their service provider dropping them.
Ask Engadget HD: Which cable / interconnect brand should I rely on? {Engadget HD}
Sep 24th 2008 1:19PM It depends on length and analog or digital.
A digital cable under 8 or 10 feet will be perfect no matter what brand or BS shielding you buy. Period. Digital is digital is digital. It either comes in or it doesn't. When you get to longer lenghts you will need shielding to prevent interference, but an off brand will be fine.
HDMI, DVI-D, TOSLINK, S/PDIF (optical or coax), etc. are all digital.
Analog, that's a horse of a different color...
When noise gets into a digital cable, the levels have to be really high for anything to show up, and when it does, it kills the signal almost completely. Analog, on the other hand, accepts all noise, any little bit of it can distort the picture in a number of ways, but if the noise levels get really high, the signal can still be interpreted, like a really fuzzy TV channel. Therefore, it's a decent idea to hit up shielded cables for anything analog over 3 feet. Don't fall for that monster crap though, that's just a gimmick.
RCA, S-VIDEO, composite, component, SCART, VGA, DVI-A, etc, are all analog.
If your shielded cable costs more than twice what an unshielded version would cost you, run away. That cable place they're talking about is probably good. I usually shop around, though.
