DISH Network details HD only TurboHD packages {Engadget HD}
Jul 11th 2008 6:13AM I'm slightly confused. I already have their HD-only package right now (the dishHD package). Does this "TurboHD" package replace what I have? Am I getting tossed to the bottom tier of this new TurboHD plan, and will have to spend more money to get back to the top where I receive all HD channels like I do now?
Poll: Do you still watch SD programming? {Engadget HD}
May 17th 2008 1:19PM I get Dish's HD-only package, so apart from locals, I don't even GET any SD channels anymore. I stopped watching them, so I decided to stop paying for them as well!
Hockey will be saved by HDTV? {Engadget HD}
May 15th 2008 1:23PM I don't know the reason, but hockey is far and away the best sport to watch in HD. Maybe it's the brightness of the ice on an HD screen or something, but it just looks incredible. I was at a hockey game recently (in person), and I leaned over to my friend and said "Is it just me, or is hockey better in HD than it is in person?" :) He agreed.
DISH Network finishes off VOOM, removes last 5 channels {Engadget HD}
May 14th 2008 2:36PM Extremely upset about this... The Voom channels provided some excellent HD content that you just couldn't get anywhere else. EquatorHD was one of my FAVORITE channels, not just of the Voom channels, but all of them. Now I wish I had DVR'd the "Eye Over Italy/Greece/France/etc" shows so I could watch them over and over again.
I'm still sticking with Dish, as I have the DishHD package at $29/month, and there just isn't anything else comparable available through any other provider. And I have to think that they wouldn't have nixed the Voom channels unless they have other channels lined up to replace them with, and soon.
DISH Network rolls out 22 new HD channels {Engadget HD}
May 12th 2008 6:23PM I have the HD-only package, and I just received ALL of the aforementioned channels. I received CNN and SciFi a couple weeks ago as well. I'm LOVING the HD-only package at $30/mo. I'll be in HD heaven as soon as Dish adds HD locals in Columbus, OH.
DISH Network rolls out 22 new HD channels {Engadget HD}
May 12th 2008 9:47AM I don't have them yet either. I've reset my DVR in an attempt to force an update, but still nothing. Will keep my eye on it though. The wife loves Bravo and has missed it since we switched from cable.
Ask Engadget HD: Is switching from cable to satellite worth it? {Engadget HD}
Apr 30th 2008 12:39PM I recently switched from WOW Cable to Dish Network. I was paying WOW roughly $80 for digital cable, a DVR, and their "HD package". I put that in quotes because at 20-some channels, you can hardly call it a package. But I did like the HD channels. They ended up being all I watched. Which meant I was paying $80 for about 20 channels that I watched, and 250-some that I didn't.
I instead opted to switch to Dish Network and their DishHD package, which is all of their national HD channels, for $29/mo. So I now pay about $40/mo (paid a bit extra to include locals) for 60-some channels that I love instead of $80 for a few hundred channels that I don't.
I now get nothing but HD channels and I love it. Have had zero problems with the satellite itself. My locals are in standard def, but I pick them up in HD over-the-air. Dish has been steadily rolling out locals in HD for awhile now, so I have high hopes that they'll hit my market soon enough.
