Toshiba BDX2000 Blu-ray player coming November for $250, gives HD-DVD the final cold shoulder {Engadget HD}

Sep 3rd 2009 2:58PM Toshiba will have to seriously upgrade the player and not just "drop a BD drive in there".

I own a XE1 (European model of XA2) and my Oppo BDP83 wipes the floor with it. Both when it comes to speed and the quality of the DVD upscaling and deinterlacing.

Xbox 360 officially the only console to stream Netflix -- sorry, PS3 and Wii {Engadget HD}

Aug 11th 2009 9:47AM Back in the HD war days I tried the HD-DVD drive with my Xbox360. It sounded like when my girlfriends vacuum the floor. I will not be using my Xbox for streaming.

Toshiba launching Blu-ray player by year's end {Engadget HD}

Jul 18th 2009 10:38PM Descent load times? Do you think the load times of the XA2 was descent? My HD-XE1 (european version of XA2) is slower than my Panasonic BD55 and by far the slowest of the HD players I have owned. If Toshiba want to impress anybody they have to beat Oppo BDO-83 and offcause the Sony Playstation 3 that have been in the market since day 1 of the "Great HD War".

TV TrickleSaver cuts off power to rogue game consoles {Engadget}

Jul 10th 2009 7:06PM I dont use this particular device, but a far cheaper one with more outlets..

In my little home cinama I have a a Xbox360, Sony PS3, Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray, Samsung DVB-C HDTV thing, a 8 port ethernet switch, TViX 6500a, WII, Onkyo TX-NR905, Octava 5 port HDMI switch, Toshiba HD-XA1 HD-DVD and finally a JVC HD1 projector.

Most of these only consume 1-3 wats in standby, but the ethernet switch doesnt do standby and uses 10 watt. The Samsung DVB-C for the television signals use around 20 watts while running and exactly the same in standby. All together it is something like 40-50 watt when in standby so I bought a device to turn off the power for 10$ and it works like a charm.

OPPO's long-awaited BDP-83 universal Blu-ray player now shipping {Engadget HD}

Jul 10th 2009 4:58PM The tray opens almost instantly. The player is ready in seconds when you turn it on. It is easily compared to PS3 in loading speeds, but playing the actual content on the disc is different from disc to disc. Depends on the use of Java etc.

OPPO's long-awaited BDP-83 universal Blu-ray player now shipping {Engadget HD}

Jul 7th 2009 1:00PM This player is actually quite cheap. In quality it is being compared to highend players from Denon and Pioneer and they are easily 3 times more expensive and have less features/are slower to operate.
