Cellphone inventor says they've become 'too complicated,' rock-n-roll too loud {Engadget}
Nov 6th 2009 4:54PM He is being misquoted. He was implying that most modern cellphones are too complicated in the sense that it takes a new user a while to get anything about the device. He meant that calling someone meant you press the numbers and the dial button. Nowadays you have them hidden with sliders, buried with qwerty keyboards, touchscreen technology etc... How is some moron who has never seen an inphone in their life going to dial something if they cant get the virtual keyboard to display?
He was also implying that phones are becoming like "one phone to rule them all". Meaning they keep adding features that are supposed to reduce the redundancy in life but don't actually do it that well.
You can call someone but battery life becomes a problem in the day because the phone caters to other things, You have mp3 capabilities but not as good as an iPod etc... You can take pictures but they are nowhere as fast or as good as standalone cameras, you have internet browsing but it doesn't compare with a computer, etc.
Also, show the man respect. What have most of you done in your life that you can thumb your noses down at him? Thumbs down to engadget writers for misquoting the poor man.
Forget HDTV and 3D, when is Ultra HDTV / Super Hi-vision coming home? {Engadget HD}
Nov 5th 2009 12:54AM Exactly... How about fixing the current HDTV broadcasts first. Almost all television is still broadcast at 720p/1080i and are heavily compressed on some channels. Another sad fact is that most "HD" channels still show SD content.
I mean first give me proper 1080p broadcast content. I don't even care for 3D yet which is a huge gimmick.
BlackBerry Bold 9700 hands-on and impressions {Engadget}
Nov 5th 2009 12:47AM It's not just you guys, the speakers are weaker because there is only one external speaker where the Bold 9000 has three. The 9700 sounds worse than the curve 8900 as well. And though the screen is 480 x 360, it is only 2.44" while the Bold is 2.65" so you gain more pixels but lose some screen size.
I've found this is just too small. I held the dummy unit and it is the size of the curve 8900 which is too small for me.
BlackBerry Bold 9700 hands-on and impressions {Engadget}
Nov 5th 2009 12:45AM They are... It's called the Dakota/Magnum and has been in development for a while now. It is the size of the Bold 9000 but is slightly slimmer. It uses a hybrid touch-screen and qwerty keyboard. It also is rumored to have a new flash-capable browser and a new camera with liquid lens technology.
GSM DROID with multitouch pinch-to-zoom demoed on video hating America {Engadget}
Nov 2nd 2009 5:02AM Curious as to why they wouldn't keep calling it the "Droid"?? I mean I'm sure Lucasfilm had it trademarked in Europe as well. Only because "Droid" could/will become a somewhat big name phone.

Exclusive two-tone Xbox 360 Play and Charge kit coming to GameStop {Engadget}
Oct 16th 2009 6:56PM Reminds me of Deadpool...
I still don't why they haven't fixed the useless D-Pad yet? I mean do they seriously believe its good or what? Nearly 95% of 360 owners hate the d-pad and it's probably the only thing holding the 360 controller form being one of the best of all-time.
Why do they keep making new controllers without fixing the problems? They only fixed it for a little while for some soccer bundle but then never kept it up.
Ask Engadget HD: Best home theater setup for gaming? {Engadget HD}
Oct 8th 2009 4:22AM Due to limited budget, Plasma and 5.1 the way to go.
I'd say look at the Panasonic or Samsung lower-end plasma lines which are still very good and the mid-range Onkyo or Denon receivers.
I may be in the minority but I say spend the bucks on a better receiver up front and focus on speakers last even though cheap speakers can ruin audio. But hey you can always upgrade or change those later.
I'd say put as much money up front on the television though and don't skimp on the screen size. It's the biggest regret people have. Choose as big as you know you can get. If your on the fence between 2 sizes always pick the bigger one. Trust me.
I still feel my 58" Plasma is small lol. As for me, I have a variety of television sets. But my main setup is the new 58" Samsung 850 series plasma which is like 1" thick with the Denon AVR-990 receiver.
BlackBerry Bold 2 to be announced October 21 for T-Mobile, AT&T {Engadget}
Oct 8th 2009 3:51AM Who's gonna be stupid enough to ebay their Bold now for this phone which is nothing more than a mix of the Tour and Curve 8900? It's the same size as the curve 8900, with the same camera, memory, screen as the curve 8900 and the exact keyboard of the tour. Not to mention there is only one speaker which sounds quieter than the the Bold, Tour or Curve 8900.
The only benefit here is the trackpad.
Any real Bold owner would be smart enough to hold onto their device until at least the Essex or Dakota which will feature a newer camera, and the Dakota will have a new touchscreen for ancillary features such as flick scrolling.
The only benefits this has over the Bold is 256 mb memory as opposed to 128 mb. But the Onyx drops the 1 gb onboard memory. And the camera is the same 3.2 mp camera that the storm introduced while the Bold has a 2,0 mp camera.
Anybody that has at least the Tour, curve 8900, Bold, iPhone 3G or 3GS would benefit to wait until mid 2010 when the REAL next-gen of Blackberry devices is released with full flash browsers etc...
