VisualHub 1.24 brings new high-resolution settings, tons more features {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jun 23rd 2007 10:32AM Seeing this post I decided to download it and give it a try. (I want to encode video for use on my PS3.) Haven't had much luck with it.

EA bullish on future PS3 performance {Joystiq}

Feb 6th 2007 2:34PM Sony sold 1.84 million PS3's last year and 5.2 million PS3 games. That's 2.8 games per console. I don't think that's too bad, considering the launch titles.

Hooking up a Wii to your HDTV? Preorder cables now {Engadget HD}

Nov 16th 2006 10:40AM Yup, tis true. When I bought my HDTV I also had to buy component video cables for my PS2. Because while my PS2 looked great on my SDTV with SVideo, it looked terrible on my HDTV. I was actually shocked by how bad it looked. This is mostly the TV's fault, I think, because other SD sources didn't look as bad. At any rate, I now have a component video cable that I can use when I get my PS3 tomorrow.

Oct 5th 2006 9:06AM Cable for now. BD when I get my PS3!

GameStop inconclusive about PS3 pre-orders {Joystiq Playstation}

Oct 2nd 2006 1:33PM I'm lucky that in Canada Toys 'R' Us took preorders, and I was the first on the list at the local one. (They are no longer taking preorders.) But I've heard about problems with Toys 'R' Us so I'm looking for an alternate pre-order source. So far, unsuccessfully. The Sony Store is telling me they're not doing pre-orders. (A switch from what they told me earlier.) I refuse to camp out, so that may limit my options!

Xbox 360 adds 1080p, HD DVD drive is $170 US for November 22nd in Japan {Engadget}

Sep 20th 2006 8:13AM 1080i and 1080p are only really interchangable for movies, which are 1080p/24 sourced.

For video games, developers could do 1080p/30 or even 1080p/60, which is much better than 1080i - twice as good in fact. 1080p/60 is 60 1920x1080 frames per second. 1080i is 60 fields or 30 frames per second, plus you have to deal with the interlacing.

Very few HDTV sets accept 1080p over component. It's more common to do 1080p over HDMI. Which is itself pretty rare, though increasingly supported.

Xbox 360 fall update adds 1080p output, HD DVD add-on hits Japan for $170 US {Engadget HD}

Sep 20th 2006 8:02AM 1080p output is pretty pointless for films - agreed. But it could make a big difference for games, if you have an HDTV screen large enough.

Panasonic @ CEDIA - Blu-ray player {Engadget HD}

Sep 18th 2006 1:16PM I think he's talking about the latest releases from Warner Brothers: Firewall, Blazing Saddles, and Lethal Weapon. All of which sport VC1 encoding and look just as great as their HD DVD counterparts.

Sep 6th 2006 10:44AM I watched Standoff last night and it wasn't bad. It wasn't great either, but it could improve...

IBM building world's fastest supercomputer using Opteron and Cell processors {Engadget}

Sep 6th 2006 8:52AM The Cell processor was never the reason for either of the PS3's delays. You can chalk those up to Blu-ray and Blu-ray.
