Calm down. Yes we are all entitled to our own opinion so here's mine.
How many times have you walked into a Best Buy or Circuit City with your mind firmly set on a specific product or technology and 1hr later you walk out with a totally different opinion or product than what you had in mind, even though you had done all your research ahead of time.
Yeah we've all been suckers for a good sales pitch at sometime or another.
Marketing boy's thats what its all about as far as the average Joe is concerned.
We are just the lucky few who have based our opinions on our own experiences & purchasing boo boo's.
Now for the sake of picking a side I'm definitely leaning towards Plasma.
If your a sports fan you'll know why.
Lack of competition sends Blu-ray player prices upward {Engadget HD}
Mar 15th 2008 4:22PM Prices will come down. Maybe it doesn't look that way now because of lack of competition. Think about it for a second, BD manufacturers have a new market and they want to see how much the consumer is willing to pay. To them the technology is too good to price themselves out of the market so for the next little while they are just going to play around with the market to see what they can get away with.
Don't hold your breath about China not having licensing rights for BD either it's only a matter of time before pirated versions come onto their market. Lets not forget that China is emerging as a huge market so it will either be pirated BD or Sony will sell them a license to produce BD products
Why Blu-ray will be the next DVD {Engadget HD}
Mar 3rd 2008 2:49PM Well I will say that I do agree on many points mentioned here but in my opinion it's all about sales. Sure people love convinience and the path of least resistance is usually taken and yes if someone like iTunes can deliver that will definitely take a big chunk out of the market.
But with big box stores like Wal-Mart getting in on the game it's only a matter of time before prices realy fall and with it standard DVD will fall. Also if BD's become an unzoned (play anywhere in the world)sales will skyrocket and DVD won't stand a chance.
If you go to places like the Southern Hemisphere for example or parts of Asia from day one their DVD players were capable of playing DVD's from any zone so I would be very surprised if their BD players are any different.
Remember North America isn't the only market here, yes it is a major market but not the only one. You just have to look at the growth of the middle class in China and India to understand.
Time will tell.

Mar 2nd 2008 1:48PM Like all new things to the market you're going to pay a premium at first. Look at plasma TV's when they 1st came out $10,000 for 42" Sony, sure Blu-ray's not new but now that the war has been won it's easier for consumers to make a decision. Now because we are so impatient we are complaining about cost. Relax it's gonna take time for many consumers to come around to everything Blu-ray once this happens you'll be able to pick up DL-BD's & BD Burners for cheap.

Mar 1st 2008 10:38PM It doesn't surprise me that Mitsubishi is bumping up production of Blu-ray media. I also think that this is just the start of things to come now that the format war is over. Look for more companies to come on board with Blu-ray in the near future.
