Ask Engadget HD: Which gaming console suits HD junkies best? {Engadget HD}
May 28th 2008 12:12PM I currently have a PS3 and Xbox 360 and I had a Wii at one point but got tired of it really quickly so I sold it for $400 and bought a PS3 (primarily for Blu-Ray). The one system that I couldn't be without right now is the 360 because of the Media Center Extender functionality. Also, most of my friends only have a 360 so I end up buying most games that are on both platforms on the 360. Xbox Live definitely beats what PS3 has to offer in online gaming if that's your thing.
The only games I have for the PS3 are Uncharted (awesome game!) and Resistance: Fall of Man. Both are just for the PS3 and are the only games I've purchased since getting my PS3 in December. It's primarily been a $400 movie player for me but since I didn't actually pay $400 for it (paid $250 for my Wii and essentially traded it for a PS3) it's not so bad.
Cox adds six more HD channels to Kansas lineup {Engadget HD}
May 27th 2008 9:52AM Almost three months after this came out and still no new HD channels for us here in Topeka (except for the VERY part time Royals HD channel that doesn't even show all the Royals games that are broadcasted in HD). I've called them numerous times and at one point was told within a few week we would have them but that was shortly after I saw this announcement so obviously that guy just wanted to get me off the phone.
Tuning Adapter support for Media Center imminent? {Engadget HD}
May 13th 2008 5:55PM This would be excellent news! I was concerned about this before I ever took the plunge and spent all the money on my XPS 420 with dual CableCARD tuners but I have until at least December until my cable company switches to SDV so I was hoping something would happen along this front. Here's to hoping it works out for us Media Center aficionados!!!
Sprint dropped 1.09 million subscribers in Q1 {Engadget}
May 12th 2008 12:27PM I switched over from Verizon to Sprint about a year ago and I love it. I have the SERO plan and I'm paying $50 less per month for MORE features. Call quality and coverage is just as good as Verizon and I don't have to wait an extra 6 months for a new Windows Mobile phone to come out. Looking forward to the HTC Diamond!
Netflix has "three additional partners" launching hardware this year {Engadget HD}
Apr 22nd 2008 2:08PM Netflix Watch Now content can already be streamed to the Xbox 360 through the use of the Media Center Extender. Eluttman1 from thegreenbutton.com has developed vmcNetflix, which is currently in Beta but works great on the Xbox 360 as well as the other version 2 Media Center extenders. The program can be found here: http://myweb.cableone.net/eluttmann04/projects/vmcNetFlix/default.htm

Feb 29th 2008 5:11PM I didn't see them when I went home for lunch at noon either.
Topeka, Kansas' CBS affiliate about to be dropped by Cox {Engadget HD}
Feb 28th 2008 11:55AM I live in Topeka and I'm an avid lover of everything HD so I've been following this closely. According to an article in today's local paper, the HD signal will NOT be going away. Here's a quote from the article on cjonline.com:
"Kaufmann also said she wanted to clarify one other point in the contract talks. The agreement that expires either at midnight tonight or midnight Friday covers only WIBW's analog signal.
A separate agreement, the time parameters of which Kaufmann didn't have readily available, covers WIBW's high-definition signal, which Cox subscribers get on Channel 612.
Therefore, Kaufmann said, even if WIBW goes dark on Channel 12, those Cox customers whose subscription includes the HDTV digital tier will still be able to see the local CBS affiliate's programming, including the NCAA Tournament to which CBS Sports has the broadcasting rights."
Hopefully they are right about this and I will continue to get the HD feed on my CableCARD PC (if not, I have a back Media Center PC that gets OTA but I'd rather not have to mess with that).
