'Official' iPhone firmware 2.0 now available for download, seriously, for real {Engadget}

Jul 11th 2008 7:19PM How long does it take you to backup/restore you iphone when doing the F/W update? I did it on two completely different computers and the phone has about 600MB of stuff on it when nothing is synced (cause of the camera photos mostly) and it takes like 1 hr to backup and 2 hrs to restore... seems wrong.

1 computer was a Dell
1 computer was a home built gaming machine. Why does it take so long?

iPhone firmware 2.0 is live (plus hands-on) {Engadget}

Jul 10th 2008 3:35PM So after the F/W is installed is it suppose to give you a blank iphone? Mine came up blank and itunes says "An iPhone has been previous synced with this computer >Set up as new iPhone >Restore from the backup of My iPhone"

I chose Restore from backup and its taking forever. Is this everyone's same path?

Amex Digital gets a little too inspired with new portable Super Multi Drive {Engadget}

Jul 9th 2008 1:46PM They can make whatever color they want (although white never looks good on a non-apple product). Thing is, THEIR DESCRIPTION SPEC IS WRONG! There is no such thing as a 20X slimline drive, and when you look at their own media spec for DVD-R they only mention 8x write speed.

All optical drives require >800mAH therefore this drive breaks USB spec (which limits 500mAH).

The only way to do this without breaking spec and possibly shutting down your PC when you plug it in is this way (Li-Ion Battery integrated in for supplemental power) http://www.slidirect.com/product40-129.html

Western Digital intros 1TB 7200RPM Caviar Black HDD {Engadget}

Jun 10th 2008 5:50PM Agreed, I've had more WD die than any other drive. Seagates have never died on me so far and they all come with 5yr warranties now. Also their 1TB drives are on sale often at frys electronics for $179.00. They have the 32MB buffer and 7200RPM.
