The future of TV: HDTV or no TV at all? {Engadget HD}
Jul 5th 2006 10:14AM Prior to HD I almost stopped watching TV. Now that I have HD, I watch more TV than I did before. I get well over 40 channels in HD (including locals) and I record enough HD that every time I turn it on theres something worth watching.
CableCard vs. Cable Box {Engadget HD}
Jul 5th 2006 7:08AM I had two cable cards. I loved them, the picture quality was great, the internal guide was so/so but that's TV related.
The major downside to cable cards is the cable company BARELY support it. If I had an issue, it would take a week to get someone with the right knowledge to fix akak come replace it. If I wanted it installed they would come install it, but charged me 25 bux for each visit. But if i wanted the box I can pick that up from any location and install it myself.
It's quite difficult to PUSH the card into the back of my TV, don't know how many techs strained themself doing that. *rolling eyes*
Needless to say, I'm with Dish Network now. :)
But the reason cable cards are dying is because the cable companies won't support them.

Question: How much non-HD content do you watch? {Engadget HD}
Jun 5th 2006 2:00PM I would say I watch 80% HD, 20% SD lately, when SG & BSG come back on Sci-Fi I will watch more SD, but I'm groaning when they'll wise up that the two biggest markets that have HD are sports fanatics and sci-fi junkies.
We still watch Survivor, but I groan through that one as well. You would think for as popular as that show is they would finally wise up and make it HD.
Most everything else we watch is in HD.
We watch HD,
then SD,
then finally DVDs
