Nov 2nd 2007 5:34PM The cable industry has to be the biggest anti-consumer, anti competitive bunch of a-holes out there. Think of how much Digital Entertainment could progress if we could free ourselves of cable boxes...Media Center PCs would be EASILY HD compatible as a start....

Major Nelson: Fix on the way for Xbox 360 1080p problems {Engadget HD}
Dec 1st 2006 1:07AM Thanks for the tip, are you using component cables or the VGA cable? This article seems to indicate that using the VGA cable will allow DVDs to be upconverted:
http://www.engadgethd.com/2006/09/21/xbox-360-hd-dvd-playback-maximum-1080i-via-component-1080p-vga/
"Even after the software upgrade this fall, via component cables, the Xbox 360 will still only upconvert DVDs to 480p, and will play HD DVD movies at a maximum resolution of 1080i. To get 1080p output for movies, you must use a VGA cable, which is not subject to the same copyright restrictions"

Nov 30th 2006 4:37PM Question for you XBox360 experts:
Will the Xbox360 using only the built in DVD Drive(i.e no HD-DVD Drive connected) upconvert standard 480p DVDs to a higher resolution like 1080i or 1080p? I have a 1080p Westy LCD and would like to use my Xbox360 as a Upconversion DVD Player. Its not clear to me if the Xbox can do that w/o thr HD-DVD accessory.
Thanks for your help.
