Oppo BDP-83 pre-orders now open for all (in North America) {Engadget HD}

Jul 1st 2009 11:56AM I've had mine up and running for over a month. Have yet to run across anything that I don't like about it. Built very solid. Weighs about 4 times as much as my Sammy blu-ray player. I have it connected with analog outs to my Sunfire TGR-401 and the sound is great.

Denon releases AVC-1610 receiver in Japan {Engadget HD}

Apr 17th 2009 8:57AM First off this will be $379 here in the US and available next month. You're not going to get pre-amp outputs on that inexpensive of a receiver. There will also be 5 more receivers and 3 profile 2.0 blu-ray players released between May and July.

Denon releases AVC-1610 receiver in Japan {Engadget HD}

Apr 17th 2009 8:54AM First of all the pricing on this one here in the US will be $379. Do you really expect to get pre-amp outputs on a receiver this inexpensive. It will be available here in the US in May. Also the model will be AVR-1910, not AVC-1910. There are also 5 other models along with 3 profile 2.0 blu-ray players being released in the next 2-3 months.

Hands-on with Samsung's AS730 HTIB {Engadget HD}

Apr 15th 2009 11:19AM Samsung makes some great looking tv's - some of the best. However, their new blu-ray player with the flip down front and this HTIB are just plain FUGLY. The "piano" finish I think still looks great on tv's but it is way out of place on avr's and other component pieces. Just my opinion.

Blockbuster voices "substantial doubt" about ability to survive {Engadget HD}

Apr 7th 2009 12:58PM It's called Redbox. I personally don't use it but that is taking over the stores for people to go rent. Sure they don't have it all like old movies and blu-ray but that's where Netflix comes in. Who can't afford $1 per night for Redbox or $6 per month on Netflix. Last time I actually went into Blockbuster and paid for a rental it was well over $5 - closer to $6.

Monster "HDMI Difference" scam still kickin' in Fry's Electronics {Engadget}

Mar 23rd 2009 1:09PM It's pretty obvious that you worked at Circuity Shitty that you don't know there is a difference in HDMI cables per the HDMI standards. Standard cables which are rated to 75Mhz and High Speed Cables rated to 340Mhz and can only pass an uncompressed 1080i signal. Cheaper cables will not send deep color either. Try reading the HDMI standards. With any luck Wal Mart higher you as their professional to work there.

Valentine's Day Giveaway: tickets for NBA All-Star Weekend in 3D! {Engadget HD}

Feb 6th 2009 1:30PM What better way to spend Valentines Day. Would love to go in the Minneapolis area!

What Blu-ray needs to do in 2009 in order to gain ground {Engadget HD}

Dec 30th 2008 12:18PM Darren Murph- first off don't write for Engadget if you don't appreciate new technology. Who cares if it's a niche market? Visually only for those with enough cash to "snag a new HDTV"? That's one of the dumbest things I have ever heard - people find the money for new HDTV's. Almost as dumb as your comment about HD streaming - that's even more of a niche market. Go back to your VHS and casette tapes and quit writing for Engadget!

Comcast readies DOCSIS 3.0 rollouts for Chicago, Atlanta, Baltimore and Ft. Wayne {Engadget HD}

Dec 11th 2008 4:46PM Comcast is more than happy to swap your old cable modem out for free. The part they don't tell you is that if you want the service that gives you 50/Mbps it currently goes for $139.95 per month is the advertised rate on their site. I was going to buy a Docsis 3.0 modem but found it pointless when there is no way I am going to give Comcast that much money every month.
