Farmers are the unhappiest of the self-employed {That's Fit}
Aug 7th 2007 8:26PM The state of farming is sad. Do you know the tale? The government pushes welfare to them for growing a crop no one but the conglomerates can use.
Overall an industrialized farm is a sad place.. that is unless you know awesome farmers who are returning to a diversifed farm and practicing good farming practices. In our area we celebrate the farmers and the markets and it's getting stronger. Some of the best restaurants in the area support >100 miles regional foods.
Farmers are people and the US has a really messed up agriculture system. Read up on it.
While your at it join Slow Foods. :)

Hazel 2.0 beta released with application uninstalling, tons of new features {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Jun 27th 2007 3:41PM I've really enjoyed the first release of Hazel. People don't quite grok how useful it is to have your Download's folder sorted by document, application, or other. The ability to give labels to those files after certain criteria, and moving/handling them further even later. It keeps my directories clean and me notified on ages/last touched. Good for any productivity geek. :)

90% of my blogging is now on Twitter... {The Jason Calacanis Weblog}
Mar 18th 2007 10:57PM Twitter's become an awesome back-channel/stream of conciousness for friends and circles. It doesn't replace the blog, it enhances the juiciness of it. We think our thoughts through twitter and you can just guess what's going to be the main course for your article. It feels more personal even though it might not be.
Twitter's got some great game and some aren't getting it, or overloading it, either way if you find the zen of it the world seems to flow a hint better. I know i find myself grinning more just being closer connected to those that aren't around me.

Big buzz on the black market: Raw milk {That's Fit}
Mar 13th 2007 5:20PM Raw milk products are sublime. You haven't had a creme brulle till you've had it with raw cream. I'm fighting in my state to bring back cow sharing that was banned in 04 by the Dairy lobby. This is a big business issue. Instead of recycling news do some deep research into these and other food related ideas and let us know what you think.
Is lean pork good or bad for you? {That's Fit}
Feb 22nd 2007 3:39PM Know your farmer, know what moderation is. Live life. I love my GGFarm (http://www.ggfarm.com) girls. They raise some beautiful pigs in organic sustainable methods. Do I fear my pork products, not on your life.

What do you sleep on? {That's Fit}
Jan 12th 2007 1:52PM I've had a tempurpedic for 4 years and would not trade it. It had a light smell to it the first week, like a new car or toy, etc.. It didn't last long. We've flipped it, recased it, and done a number of things to it and it's going to last forever at this rate.
Best thing since sliced bread ;-) hehe! When we are away we pine to come home to our bed. We're such losers ;p hehe.

Are you a Splenda user? {That's Fit}
Jan 10th 2007 2:46PM I've gone back to sweet and low.
I'm one of those supertasters that acidity is not always on equal footing. Sugar makes my mouth foul, my teeth feel funny, and in the right quantity makes my tongue feel burned. Most of the time I opt for a faux-sugar because it blunts all of this and I appreciate that.
However, after reading about how engineered splenda was with their extra chlorine I've pulled it from my diet until a good long-term study can show that it holds no ill will towards us. The ancient saccharin scares were debunked and has been shown in 50 year studies to not be a health risk. As always with us crazy humans, YMMV.
Zune sucks, but why is it selling? {Download Squad}
Dec 2nd 2006 8:25PM Do we have to explain the long-tail again? People in the olden days thought the market had a limit. There are billions of us. There are 95% idiots in the world. That means there are many many users out there that by many many different things, good, bad, right, retarded.
Zune will sell just like other bad things sale. M$ also has its base of fanboi's and they will attack it like no tomorrow and defend it on religious principles just like an Apple-boi will do the same to their product line.
Fitness belongs in the classroom {That's Fit}
Nov 30th 2006 2:58PM Two things always gets my wife (a teacher) and I. One is that most PE courses are not held by a teacher who has gone through a physical education course, physiology, or college athletics. It would behoove us to put those with experience and understanding in the field into the classroom. That would help understanding. The second is PE isn't just about running around, it's about 'Play'. The schools are trying to generalize further and further a childs need for play time. The teachers are taught it on many many levels but the bureaucrats only see test scores. They aren't seeing the entire picture of a healthy psychology, school culture, or breeding and raising healthy future individuals.
When Einstein went to school he went to an integrated scholastic system. Art was taught next to Science, the whole was broken and expressed as connected pieces. Today we seem hell bent on reductionist theories which aren't panning out.
