Blu-ray releases on May 13th, 2008 {Engadget HD}
May 12th 2008 2:42PM I don't know anyone who pays the SRP on Blu-ray, or for that matter on standard DVDs. Most of the DVDs in the $20 range have an SRP of $29.99. And DVDs were once at at $39.99 SRP (believe me, I know. I worked at a chain called Suncoast when DVD first came out, and the average selling price was about $29.99-39.99, depending on the studio).
It's relatively easy to find titles about $10 below SRP if you don't actually buy them out of the studios' online stores.
This week, I'll be picking up Narnia and Master and Commander. I'm glad its finally coming out- Ive been waiting for M&C for months!
Poll: Have you purchased a Blu-ray player post-fallout? {Engadget HD}
May 7th 2008 12:05PM Just picked up the DMP-BD30 yesterday. I have a PS3 in the other room, but since I don't really use the web features yet, I'm really liking the Panasonic better (if only because it works with my Harmony without a workaround).
Batman: The Movie makes a Blu-ray first {Engadget HD}
Mar 26th 2008 8:44AM I might be looking forward to this release even more than Batman Begins...
Blu-ray releases on March 25th, 2008 {Engadget HD}
Mar 24th 2008 9:24AM April looks to be a lot better, with titles like Unbreakable, Juno, and The Golden Compass on the horizon.
I guess I can save the money this week towards that Batman Begins giftset in July.
PS3 2.20 update to offer portable copy of Blu-ray films to PSP? {Engadget HD}
Mar 24th 2008 8:36AM If it works like Digital Copy, then there would presumably be a unique code included. You'd enter that into PS3, and it would make the copy once. This would prevent people from simply netflixing BD movies and getting the portable version.
Fanswag: win a custom Mass Effect Xbox 360 Elite [update] {Xbox 360 Fanboy}
Mar 17th 2008 1:19PM I bought my 360 Arcade for Mass Effect specifically. But this Elite console's HDD will come in handy for the new DLC, as well as HD Movies off of Marketplace.
Plus, the Black finish matches my home theater equipment waaaay better than the eggshell white of the Arcade.
Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending March 9th, 2008 {Engadget HD}
Mar 14th 2008 2:03PM Is this really that surprising when you can get many HD DVD titles for less than the standard DVD.
Warner planning to release "book-like" Blu-ray sets for collectors {Engadget HD}
Mar 12th 2008 1:06PM The North by Nortwest one will be a must-buy for me. Here's hoping Casablanca and Wizard of Oz are on tap as well.
I don't mind movies like these having unique packaging- I keep a separate shelf for boxed sets and collector's editions of favorite movies.
Lionsgate adds iTunes Digital Copy, starting with Rambo {Engadget HD}
Mar 12th 2008 8:57AM I got the Family Guy DVD a few months ago, and it works great. I have it on my PC, Apple TV, and iPod. Biggest plus is the ease of downloading and speed. Its not something I'd use much (I agree with TorontoGuy- If you're buying a frickin' Blu-ray Disc, why are you going to watch low res video on a 1" screen), but this is great for people who are not really saavy enough to rip their DVDs and reencode them for their portable device.
Pioneer officially ends in-house plasma production, Kuro LCDs coming soon {Engadget HD}
Mar 7th 2008 9:37AM Panasonic makes some great plasmas. Sure, they're not Kuros, but for guys on a budget like me, I'll take a Panny any day over an LCD.
Still, its sad to see Pioneer have to pull out like this. Hopefully, like Ben says, they'll give Panasonic some of their proprietary tech soon.
