Hauppauge to expand its offerings to include a CableCARD tuner {Engadget HD}
Sep 12th 2009 8:40PM Except that's not how Hauppauge, NY is pronounced.
It's Hop-pawg (or POG). Not Hop-hog.

Jun 17th 2009 3:28PM My iPhone is now bricked as well. And it's out of warranty! Thanks Apple!

The Dark Knight shatters sales record, moves 600,000 Blu-ray Discs on day one {Engadget HD}
Dec 11th 2008 11:31AM Odds are that if they bought a Panasonic DVD player TWELVE years ago, they would have a Blu-Ray player by now. Since they were early adopters and bought a DVD player when they first came out.
My local comic book shop (which happened to break street for TDK) usually only has DVDs in stock (they carry movies that would cater to the Sci-Fi/Comic book loving crowd). Yet for the Dark Knight, they had Blu-Rays in stock. This movie is going to be to Blu-Ray what the Matrix was for DVDs.
And cover for every copy says "only working in Blu-Ray Players/PS3s" so I wouldn't be too worried.
Infrared-to-Bluetooth converter roundup: get universal control of your PS3 {Engadget HD}
Nov 25th 2008 7:35AM Well that was a really annoying and unhelpful article. "Converters 1, 2 and 3 are all pretty expensive (but we won't list the prices) but do everything you need, while the $20 converter that everyone knows about won't turn the system on or off."
Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending October 12th, 2008 {Engadget HD}
Oct 18th 2008 2:03PM What are you talking about?
I mean, I get that you think that BD is terrible or failing or whatever, and you're ignoring the fact that these sales figures are on the week between two big BD releases .... but, really, what the hell are you saying?
Poll: Which Blu-ray studio is your favorite? {Engadget HD}
Oct 11th 2008 1:48PM Most people are saying Sony for the same reason that Sound & Vision picked Sony. While Warner Bros. might arguably have a better catalog of movies (and I would agree with that), they've been hit and miss with their Blu-Ray releases. Most of Sony's BD titles have very high bitrates, and have PCM and/or Loseless audio tracks. Warner Bros. for the most part released titles for Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, and encoded the movies to maximum space that HD-DVD permitted, which means a lower video bitrate, and often only Dolby Digital tracks, rather than TrueHD or DTS HD Master. Batman Begins, which came out on HD-DVD about a year earlier than the Blu-Ray, had the same video encode for both, even though they had a year and an extra 10 or 20 gigs for the Blu-Ray.
And then there are titles like Speed Racer, which was a very recent Blu-Ray only release, and only had a Dolby Digital track.
Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending September 7th, 2008 {Engadget HD}
Sep 13th 2008 3:36PM This is very significant because Transformers on Blu Ray outsold the DVD this week two to one. It would have actually been number three on the list of sales if you put both BD and DVD on the same list, but listed BD and DVD as separate titles.
At the end of the month we should start to see things really heat up with Iron Man, since Transformers was a catalog title with a year delay between the DVD (and HD-DVD) release and the BD release.
007: Casino Royale Collector's Edition first Blu-ray Disc to double-dip {Engadget HD}
Aug 14th 2008 1:36AM Full Metal Jacket is more of a double dip than this, since this has more material and a second disc. FMJ was just the movie with a proper transfer.
Also, if collectors editions are considered double dips, what happens when both the regular and collectors editions are released at the same time? (Batman Begins comes to mind).
Cablevision trumpets 60 HD channels, DirecTV / Verizon chuckle {Engadget HD}
Jul 28th 2008 1:53PM Hmm, at this rate, maybe TWC will brag about reaching 50 HD channels for NYC by the end of the year.
End of summer please come soon, so that FiOS installation will be finished on my block :-/.
