Mar 17th 2009 12:30PM I would love to see CDMA support coming... ala Verizon somewhere buried in the code.

Apr 25th 2008 10:36AM Isn't this really just a JVC in Pioneer clothing? I'd save a couple bucks and go with the JVC.

Redesign giveaway: HTC's new Shift UMPC {Engadget}

Apr 14th 2008 9:07PM I'd LOVE this! I'd use it while traveling and fiddling with it to see how I could incorporate it into future Crestron/Automation systems. It has alot of potential.

DVD jukebox sales down because of Blu-ray? {Engadget HD}

Apr 10th 2008 8:37AM Actually, they aren't $50k and if they are trying to sell Kaleidescape systems for that then that's why their sales are down. A complete system in under $15k.

Most people already have a large DVD collection and Kaleidescape currently offers the best management solution for those who can afford it. They are upgradeable to Blu-ray when that player is released. For now, a standalone BD player is the way to go for those who are buying systems now and can't wait until they can release a Blu player/recorder.

DVD jukebox sales down because of Blu-ray? {Engadget HD}

Apr 9th 2008 9:59PM Actually, you just need to inform your customers that Kaleidescape is already Blu-ray ready. The server and backend infrastructure is ready to go and it just will need the Kaleidescape Blu-Ray Movie Player to record/playback Bluray movies. We've been selling Kaleidescapes at the same rate we have before. In typical Kaleidescape fashion I'm sure they will offer an upgrade for current users if they want to trade in their current player clients for Blu players.

If people are having trouble selling them, then they aren't selling them right. IMHO.

VUDU / NetStreams link up for whole home video distribution {Engadget HD}

Apr 9th 2008 9:54PM It's kind of cool, although all they are doing is taking the component video ouput and encoding it into an IP Video stream to be distributed by their video/audio client/server architecture. You can do the same thing with almost any high-end control system out there. For instance, you can control the Vudu from a Crestron processor and utilize Extron, a Crestron PVID, or AutoPatch Component Video Switcher to do the same thing without the additional step of converting to a packet stream.

Just an FYI, Vudu will activate the IP Control of the "vanilla" Vudu if you ask nicely. They may stop if alot of people ask for it, but I doubt alot of people will.

Forthcoming TiVo software update promises faster operations {Engadget HD}

Apr 2nd 2008 11:54PM Just an FYI, this update is also supposed to add advanced controls that Crestron can utilize. This is supposed to be RS232 or Ethernet control. It is not clear which will be implemented. I've been told by Crestron that the control module is waiting on this update from TiVo to be activated. We can't wait! It'll make the control of those units with Crestron seamless.

A look at Crestron's DVPHD-Pro in action {Engadget HD}

Mar 17th 2008 8:15PM This system is really cool, but we normally do multiple LCDs/Plasmas with a motorized screen if someone really wants this. For most clients $18k is a drop in the bucket.
