Mitsubishi's 65-inch LaserVue HDTV undergoes further testing {Engadget HD}

Oct 18th 2008 8:44PM LCD (Non-local dimming LED) and DLP do produce 100% of the light all the time, however, plasma and LCDs with local dimming LEDs do not. Plasmas do have some (less and less, especially with the Pioneers) light emmission even when suppose to be black but we are talking very very small amount, and Local dimming LEDs are basically the same, with less light being used when not needed. LaserVue, don't know, if its always on like an LED lamp or regular lamp.

World Fishing Network HD splashes down on FiOS TV {Engadget HD}

Aug 21st 2008 9:23PM Just because you don't partake into a certain activity does not mean others don't either. Here is a quote from American Sportfishing Association:

America’s nearly 40 million anglers spend over $45 billion per year on fishing equipment, transportation,
lodging and other expenses associated with their sport. With a total annual economic impact of $125
billion, fishing supports over one million jobs and generates $34 billion in wages and $16 billion in tax
revenues each year. The average amount anglers spend yearly on hooks, rods, lures and other fishing
tackle increased 16 percent from 2001 to 2006.

40 million possible viewers is a pretty good national audience.

Pioneer's Project Kuro: The 9mm thick, infinite contrast 50-inch plasma HDTV {Engadget}

Jan 7th 2008 9:42PM Has Pioneer mentioned if this plasma will use the new 10 lumen technology that has been talked about? If so it means power consumption goes down, brightness goes up, and contrast ratio is much higher also. I believe it is because the only way to slim the panel down would be to reduce power consumptionm, thus reducing the larger components needed for more power hungry panels. This, in my unsubstantiated and unproven opinion would reduce the thickness of the glass panels also. Todays tech is 2 lumens, 10 lumen is thus capable of 5 times the brightness per pixel cell. Somebody at CES needs to ask these questions.
