Constant-height projection on the cheap {Engadget HD}

Aug 29th 2008 4:58PM It seems to me that mere anamorphic magnification will get you nothing in terms of wasted resolution unless the source has the film recorded anamorphically. (That is, if the black bars are in the material, zooming gets you nothing.)

Panasonic's Blu-ray SC-BT100 HTIB system gets reviewed {Engadget HD}

Aug 20th 2008 3:17PM So this is an integrated player/amp? Are there speaker binding terminals on the back of this thing?

Panasonic's Blu-ray SC-BT100 HTIB system gets reviewed {Engadget HD}

Aug 20th 2008 9:10AM I don't understand how this system works. Are those powered speakers, or is it maybe one of those deals where there is an amp in the sub that drives the speakers?

Poll: Did you purchase an HD DVD player post-format war? {Engadget HD}

Aug 9th 2008 1:12PM What could possibly be the point of this "Poll"? Are we that desperate for material that we throw out HD-DVD flame bait 6 months after the fact?

Canon wins SED lawsuit, can produce SED displays again {Engadget HD}

Aug 7th 2008 11:16AM My assumption right now is that OLED will be the next technology. First gen displays have already been sold, and PQ performance potential very good.

If it turns out that SED takes off, I would gladly take that too. :)

Consumers delaying Blu-ray purchases, can't find value proposition {Engadget HD}

Aug 1st 2008 4:37PM heh I just had that exact thought. Please pass the crumpets.

Consumers delaying Blu-ray purchases, can't find value proposition {Engadget HD}

Aug 1st 2008 3:48PM I agree. Use the whole 50 Gig for the move. I don't care about the bonus features, for the most part.

This is why I always thought criticisms of pre-profile 2.0 Bluray as being "incomplete" were ridiculous. It's like the "multiple angle" feature on DVD. When was the last time you used that?

Consumers delaying Blu-ray purchases, can't find value proposition {Engadget HD}

Aug 1st 2008 3:44PM This reinforces my perception that assertions that consumers are not interested in BD logically boil down to a claim that consumers are not interested in HD in general.

I do not believe that consumers are spending thousands of dollars on new HD sets merely because they mistakenly feel they are obliged to.

Aug 1st 2008 1:31PM Following the same logic, just because there is Hi-Def cable, doesn't mean you have to spend thousands of dollars on an HDTV. And yet consumers seem to be doing quite a lot of that, indicated that they indeed do understand and want HD.

Consumers delaying Blu-ray purchases, can't find value proposition {Engadget HD}

Aug 1st 2008 1:07PM If consumers don't see the benefit of Blu-ray, then why do they see the benefit of HDTV?
