Ask Engadget HD: How can I get internet radio in my home theater? {Engadget HD}
Aug 12th 2009 3:27PM Can anyone recommend some good high quality stations?
I am sick of tuning into streaming radio and finding it is an overly compressed signal. The only good sounding stations I find tend to play obscure music that I really don't enjoy. Pandora really does not sound good either.
Ever since my favorite radio station went under (106.3 for those in NJ) it has been difficult to find something decent to listen to.
Auzentech's HDMI 1.3 X-Fi HomeTheater still coming soon, for $249.99 {Engadget HD}
Aug 11th 2009 2:34PM Actually, I'm wondering the same thing. I have a Radeon 4850 that decodes DTS-MA and TrueHD to LPCM and sends it to my receiver just fine. I don't quite see the need for these overpriced devices other than to get bitstreamed audio to the receiver.
Hmmm. $70 LPCM vs. $250 Bitstream. No brainer to me.

Paradigm's Studio 60 v.5 5.1-channel speaker system gets a big thumbs up {Engadget HD}
May 21st 2009 12:22PM No, I do not own the Emotiva amp, yet. If I upgrade to Studio 100s, then I will surely buy something more substantial than my Marantz SR8001 to power them.
Paradigm's Studio 60 v.5 5.1-channel speaker system gets a big thumbs up {Engadget HD}
May 21st 2009 11:37AM I'm dying to here this new series. I currently have the Studio 40s V3, CC-570 V3, and a Seismic 12 (absolutely amazing) and I love it. The sound is so clear and full, I can only imagine little being added to the V4 and V5 series though.
I am hoping for one thing at this point. Maybe someone will get upgrade fever and let their Studio 100 V3 pair go for a good price.
Used Paradigm has got to be one of the best values in home theater next to Emotiva.

3D: is this the resurgence that counts? {Engadget HD}
Jan 23rd 2009 4:32PM I actually just saw My Bloody Valentine 3D last night and expected it to be gimmicky and hardly add to the movie. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. After spending my extra 2.50 and getting nifty retro looking frames, I was utterly amazed by the level of depth added to the picture. You definitely get that sense of 3d with everything, not just special effects. People, cars, buildings all take on a new level of realism. I found myself closing one eye (which gives a perfectly fine image) and thinking just how dull it looks without the 3d effect.
Sure, the movie wasn't the greatest, but the sense of presence is impressive. I hope all new movies include this. Really, it's something that needs to be experienced and not described. I recommended about 10 people today to go see it.
My only gripes are A) glasses get annoying after a while (I wear contacts normally because of this), and B) because of the polarization, some of the light is lost giving a darker image.
Nissan recalls nearly 250,000 Xterras, Pathfinders and Frontiers {Autoblog}
Jan 7th 2009 1:01PM Looks like I'll be taking a trip to the dealer. Aside from the recall, my 07 Frontier has been great. Oh yea, the back seats constantly fall down when I'm driving and scare the beejesus out of me.
LG Display plans to melt eyes with Trumotion 480Hz LCD TV {Engadget HD}
Dec 30th 2008 8:45AM I'm also missing a point here. If the panel has a response time of 4 ms, that means it can "respond" 250 times per second. How on earth do you produce a 480Hz image if the pixels themselves can't operate above 250Hz.
Or, am I completely off base with this technology and the two values are not related in that way? Someone please chime in with a good explanation and or link.
Netflix sees 30% rise in profit, expects 500,000 Blu-ray subscribers {Engadget HD}
Oct 21st 2008 12:00PM Perhaps, I'm one of the few lucky ones, but I recently signed up for Netflix last month specifically for Blu-ray rentals. I have received every single movie in my queue (all Blu-ray) within 2 days of sending out my last disc. For the 1$ extra a month, I have managed to watch about 12 HD movies in the past month. Granted, some were not so pretty looking on the bottom, they all played flawlessly in my PS3.
I guess it all depends on your distribution center and where it is located. It seems everyone else I have spoken to has long wait times, scratched discs, and refuses to pay one dollar more.
So, it's what $15.99 a month or so for the 2 movie at a time plan, and I rent 12 movies. Thats $1.34 per rental for glorious 1080p quality with little wait time.
