+Le Cube HD DVR brings a touch of class to Canal+ {Engadget HD}

Nov 30th 2008 5:43AM I don't find 320GB enough for an HD PVR. It would be nice if HD PVRs either had the option for external drives (eSATA or USB), or at least the ability to transfer/record content to NAS.

Black Friday Giveaways (part 5): Universal Remote's URC Digital R50 {Engadget HD}

Nov 29th 2008 12:37AM Ah! URC makes great products!

Kanye West fails to single-handedly save B&O's handset biz {Engadget}

Oct 30th 2008 6:35PM You're correct about the apostrophe, it's not supposed to be possessive. But when have rappers ever cared about grammar? They're all about semantics, yo!

Hands-on with the THX-certified QuietHome door {Engadget HD}

Sep 13th 2008 9:32PM In terms of sound transmission and getting down to an NC rating of about 20 in a dedicated home theatre, the door/s are the weakest part of the room. A standard 36mm solid core door with seals has an STC of approximately 30. When you put an STC 30 door on a 10m2 (~100 square feet) wall with an STC of 55, the overall STC of the wall+door is reduced to 36.

So if one is spending the time and money to properly decouple the walls of their dedicated home theatre (or other such quiet space) a door like this is a 'sound' investment.

Sky launching HD service, MySky HD DVR in New Zealand {Engadget HD}

May 15th 2008 4:58AM FINALLY. A bit of real HD lovin' in New Zealand. Keep the competition coming!

Sony's HDR-SR12 1080/60 camcorder gets reviewed {Engadget}

Apr 1st 2008 5:47AM @Mtirv

That quote is comparing this camera to the comparable Canon model and saying that *the Canon* is tempting over the Sony because the Canon does 24p/30p. As this article says, the Sony is locked in at 60i.

Indy Racing League to stuff HD cameras inside select cars {Engadget HD}

Mar 28th 2008 9:18PM I wonder if the car(s) carrying the cameras will have any performance disadvantage?

In the world of professional motorsport, they try to squeeze every little drop of performance out of the car. Will having a 'protective shell' above the air intake slightly decrease aerodynamics? Will the power (battery?) needed to record and broadcast the signal add extra weight to the car? Will the however many watts of power be drawn from the engine?

New Zealand Freeview HDTV service set for April launch {Engadget HD}

Mar 3rd 2008 1:08AM I call Auckland my 'hood, as you say. I'm putting in an order for a DBS-T PC tuner as I type... well after I type, to be precise. This is very good news for NZ, but I'm wondering if they have copies of the American shows (Lost, Dexter, Weeds, etc.) to roll out in HD yet. The aforementioned channels currently air these shows OTA in SD.

Poll: How many HD channels do you have? {Engadget HD}

Mar 2nd 2008 1:18AM Trust me, if there were any HD channels on offer in New Zealand, I'd have them all.
