G3 iMac good enough for casual user? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jul 11th 2006 4:52PM I have a 300MHz Clamshell iBook with 128 MB RAM and 6GB HDD as my main Mac, but my main computer is a four-year-old Windows PC.
The Clamshell iBook runs Panther and does so quite well, as long as you don't open too many programs. I use it mainly for instant messaging and internet browsing. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's HDD is really loud, but when that shuts of, the computer is very quiet.

MacBook supports extended desktop {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

May 16th 2006 6:25PM It even supports running with the lid closed! Also previously limited to the PowerBook line.

Video autoplay on Apple.com? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

May 5th 2006 8:16AM I think it's annoying, not because of the Video itself, but because the QuickTime plugin takes so long to load, freezing up my browser for quite a while.

TUAW poll results: XP on an iMac {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Mar 18th 2006 2:49PM There would be no legal reason for Apple to sue.
The only company that could sue about Windows on Mac is Microsoft - the xom package appears to contain a reverse-engineered "ntdetect.com" file.

Mar 6th 2006 4:18PM http://www.engadget.com/2006/03/03/lg-kills-blu-ray-model-considers-combo-player/

I've been waiting for an HD-DVD/Blu-ray combo player. After Samsung cancelled theirs because of licensing issues, I thought this wouldn't happen. Lets see if LG actually starts shipping theirs.

Silly Sunday Survey: Intel Macs, buy now or wait? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jan 29th 2006 1:03PM I'll wait until someone has figured out how to dual-boot Windows XP because I need to run a few programs that need to run on a native Windows.

I probably won't buy one before they include a HD-DVD/Blu-ray + DVD-Burner combo drive because I don't want to buy something that won't play any current DVD movies in a few years, but that has nothing to do with the Intel switch.

Germany to receive five new Apple Stores? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jan 15th 2006 5:29PM > I read in it Steve's supersecret rumors podcast.
So, you read podcasts? And anyway, Steve talked about a huge iPod, not a huge Mac mini...

Germany to receive five new Apple Stores? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jan 15th 2006 5:24PM > German tech website Faz.net
FAZ.net is not a tech website, it's the website of one of the biggest German newspapers.

Leo says Macs not inherently safer than Windows {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Nov 22nd 2005 10:55AM Macs aren't much safer than Windows. They are less popular than Windows, and therefore not many virusses are coded for Mac. But now the point is: when the beta of Windows Vista came out a couple months ago, within days there were three virusses specifically for Vista. Vista is far less popular than Mac OS X. Why would anyone write a virus for an OS that only has a couple thousand copies? So maybe the OS core of Mac OS is safer?
