Ask Engadget HD: What's the best graphics card for my HTPC? {Engadget HD}

Sep 10th 2008 2:56PM The obvious solution is onboard. The 780G chipset handles HD playback perfect. I'd choose the Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H motherboard. I know I am :)

For this board you can always add a crossfire graphics card and setup the onboard and add-on card as dual graphics to gain even more power, but it really isn't required.

Digital media revolution to give home servers a shot in the arm? {Engadget HD}

Jul 24th 2008 4:16PM Well, I just finished building my Office/powergaming PC this spring. Now I'm at the HTPC doorstep for the livingroom. After HTPC is at its place under the TV, I really urge for that media/file-server for all my CD's, DVD's and Photos.

Still, I like to have a physical copy of my media. I will never have the feeling of ownership with a download, and I'd rather have the original copy of media than a download burned to a physical media.

Sony's 0.3mm OLED eyes-on {Engadget}

May 28th 2008 4:38PM LOL, I just couldn't stop laughing after reading your post. That is truly an outburst of irritation. LOLOL. Well, I hear you and somewhat I agree. Everybody talk black levels and hopefully OLED or other newer technologies like SED (where the h... did SED go anyway) can once and for all ensure perfect black levels. People buy LCD because the technology is old and easy to maintain in production. The consumers wishes are never a priority. Its all about "He who has most money - wins". So if marketing can pursuade consumers to buy the "wonderful" LCD TV's it is LCD that stays in production and development. Oh, consumer wallets always point in the direction of LCD anyway. I'd bet if OLED technology was able to promise everlasting, non-fading displays close to the LCD prices.... LCD would die instantly.

Philips looking to exit plasma biz in 2009 {Engadget HD}

May 20th 2008 9:05AM I'm already looking forward to inexpensive Pioneer Kuro plasmas. ;)

Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending February 17th, 2008 {Engadget HD}

Feb 22nd 2008 6:08PM I guess the HD-DVD giveaways and firesales will push the pie even more red till stock depletes. A lot of retailers are very eager to get rid of HD-DVD.

Harman Kardon hops on the Blu-ray bandwagon {Engadget HD}

Feb 14th 2008 4:37PM # Nifty
The Dynamic HD features.... well personally I find it absolutely useless and wouldn't like it for BD either. I want to watch a movie in HD and thats it. Hmm, too bad that buyers possibly has to waste extra money on these features (maybe the players or movies could be cheaper without). I'd rather buy the media stripped down to the movie itself and then rip it to a future HD movie home database storage solution.

Toshiba and Panasonic double OLED lifespan -- exceeds LCDs {Engadget HD}

Jan 25th 2008 4:32PM #Brian
In our household that would be 16 years use (5 hours a day). I believe after 16 years you really want something new anyway, if not sooner ;)

Ask Engadget HD: Where do these VideoScan numbers come from? {Engadget HD}

Jan 10th 2008 5:01PM Anybody know when we can expect the next Nielsen Videoscan numbers?

HD DVD group cancels CES press conference in wake of Warner announcement: daaamn {Engadget HD}

Jan 5th 2008 1:39PM #Claus Salad

If every studio should be offering both formats and wait for the consumer to decide, there will be no winning format. At the same time studios would be wasting time AND money on both formats. I say "One format to rule them all". I don't care which format wins, we just need a winner to start the next mainstream consumer market over DVD.

Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending December 23rd, 2007 {Engadget HD}

Jan 4th 2008 5:13PM #Geoff

It really looks like yes. If that news release is valid, the obvious words really state that WB is ending HD-DVD releases May 2008 to support Blu-Ray (and DVD) exclusively. VERY interesting article indeed, since the words come directly from the chairman.
