Its *all* just a diversion.

WoW, Casually: Patch 2.4 preview {WOW Insider}
Mar 14th 2008 11:56AM You should note that we got a bonus week of the Faire due to Blizzard's mistake on the calendar. It is still in Elwynn Forest. I got a gem this morning!

Breakfast Topic: When did you get hooked? {WOW Insider}
Jan 22nd 2008 11:36AM It didn't take long. I resisted a looong time, because I can be somewhat obsessive-compulsive with games in general. But late 2006 I gave myself the trial version as a reward for finishing a final paper for a class. I am very interested in the social web and rationalized that WoW was "required reading!" I was a little horrified at first. I was a hard core Realmz player (old school, flat, Mac OS rpg, often with challenging puzzle solving). These quests required NO puzzle solving! And then there was the shock and horror of the Inn at Goldshire O_O (repleat with nekkid table dancers my first time there) and all the people just running, running, running by....
But that oh-so-delicately-balanced carrot of level progressions kept me going. My first trip to SW and discovering that there was more than Elwynn Forest was probably the defining moment.
Soon I was thinking "Hmmm, why pay someone to make my next enchanting rod....I can just make a new character to be a blacksmith....oh and while I am at it, why not an alchemist and leatherworker just in case." And then a bank boy and learning how to play the AH.
Some bad PUGs in Redridge followed by an excellent one sealed the deal. I was/am just amazed how a group of complete strangers can (albeit not always, lol) do specialized jobs to complete an often challanging task. One of my favorite things in WoW is a good PUG. It is a somewhat rare and random thing but highly interactive and it keeps me coming back.
15 Minutes of Fame: Noor the pacifist {WOW Insider}
Jan 16th 2008 12:10PM My bank boy alt is a pacifist of sorts. ..he is sworn to not kill anything. Its a long story involving a failed attempt to get my gf to try wow. I have been trying to get him to level 10 so that he can tame a pet (half nekkid nelf hunter bank boy, natch) but it is hard. He once accidently killed a critter with his trusty Farmer's Broom and /cry 'd for hours--auto attack is now off the button bar. He also once paid 1g for a run through of the Japserlode mine (/shame)!
I think the Noor's battleground strategy is great and completely valid--I'd welcome her/him in my battlegroup anytime! Although the weapon skill constraint, to me, seems a bit contrived...I would think sap would be valid....but to each his own!
Hurray for you, Noor! and good luck!

Breakfast Topic: Why do we hate playing defense? {WOW Insider}
Nov 29th 2007 2:43PM I'm an ally frost mage and I play quite a bit of D:
WSG: hide in FR and frost nova inc
AB: aoe flag clickers
AV: here I am much more suited for O (unless it is a *polymorphs self into turtle* a turtle, at which point it is blizzard spam the pass or bridge). But I will happily babysit a resource when needed.
But being very squishy I can't do much on my own, soo....
I have taken to trying to improve our battlegroups performance by spamming the need for D often. I watch critical nodes when I can and if there aren't enough bodies near the flag, I *urgently* let everyone know (hopefully just below the spam threshold). I will even go so far as to call out individuals who are nearby by name to fall back on D.
I have also tried to be very vocal about how important D is at the start and towards the end of games (hopefully helping to educating any newbs in our battle group over time) and to go out of my way to thank and acknowledge those who are sacrificing HK over bg chat--again by name.
I'd like to believe that fostering a constructive and positive enviroment helps our performance and is more fun. Of course nothing is more fun than a good, hard fought, efficient WIN for ALLY! Whoohoo GJ everyone who stayed back on D!!!1!
