More research asserts that Blu-ray adoption isn't apt to surge soon {Engadget HD}
May 14th 2008 4:26PM I own blu-ray and still buy regular DVD movies unless it is a "blockbuster" movie that I really enjoyed... Still waiting on The Matrix series on blu-ray. Trying to save wherever I can.
I'm still waiting for my Samsung BDP1400 to come back to me... The power board inside it went out within two weeks of owning it. I'm apparently not the only one having the same issue with the BDP1400 model as I see many reports of the same thing on the internet. Samsung made me pay to have it shipped to their repair center too.
TWC readies 12 new HD channels for Southern California {Engadget HD}
May 14th 2008 9:12AM Cable companys do not have to shut down their analog service when 02/17/09 arrives. Some cable companys are using that date to go "all-digital" but it has nothing to do with the over the air analog broadcast shut off. Some cable companies are just using that date as well to create less confusion to subscribers.
TWC Albany, NY seems to have the best lineup of all cable companies... They have the "standard" 80 channels in analog, the same 80 available in SD-Digital, and then some of the same channels in HD-Digital format. If you head over there and check out their channel lineup, it is IMO the best lineup of all cable companies.
Also if your cable company has a Free HD on Demand channel, check that out because my local company does not have Speed HD on the lineup but they do have a decent selection of shows from Speed on Demand available in HD.
Time Warner Cable starts rolling out new Navigator, more HD soon? {Engadget HD}
Apr 25th 2008 5:18PM I enjoy the new navigator much more than passport... My number one thing is that when I am watching a 4:3 show, the bars on the left and right side are no longer that annoying grey color anymore... Black now which is SO much less annoying.
Ottovonmo's locking HDMI cables solve a problem you likely don't have {Engadget HD}
Apr 14th 2008 2:36PM Good idea for the reasons said in the article but one again another no-good reason to charge a very high price for a HDMI cable.
Survivor meets HDTV for the first time this summer {Engadget HD}
Apr 14th 2008 11:42AM I still think Survivor should go somewhere really cold. I know it would never happen but maybe FOX would do a rip-off like that.
TBS HD shedding its stretchy skin, showing more true HD? {Engadget HD}
Apr 10th 2008 10:35AM I agree. Cartoons are not too bad stretched and the ONLY thing I do not mind being stretched.
Suddenlink, LIN TV reach retrans deal, restore KXAN & KBIM {Engadget HD}
Mar 28th 2008 10:20AM LIN TV owns WDTN in Dayton, OH and no pay provider has access to WDTN's digital feed (NBC HD).
Price still swaying decisions of HDTV buyers {Engadget HD}
Mar 27th 2008 12:31PM I ran into the double web-site issue at Best Buy when I was buying my HDTV last year. The price was not different but my copy in-hand stated free home shipping where in the store the rep pulled up and showed me that it was $49.99 to have delivered home.
I went to Circuit City with Best Buy's ad and received a price match + 10% less + Free home shipping.
Ask Engadget HD: Which digital TV converter is the one to buy? {Engadget HD}
Mar 26th 2008 12:33PM I have a samsung box and it is great but it really needs a button to switch between letterbox, stretch, and zoom... I like watching my "HD Shows" in a letterbox format on my non HDTV and it is a pain to go into the menus to switch it back to zoom mode when a show is not in HD.
Fox goes all-HD for 2008 MLB season {Engadget HD}
Mar 6th 2008 3:06PM FOX is getting better at the "Widescreen HD" thing... I did notice on New Amsterdam that it said "High Definition Digital TV" instead of "High Resolution Digital TV"... They may have just changed the name for kicks and it still not be in true HD but I wondered if anyone else noticed that? Still looks decent even if it is not.
