what really sad is we missed a nice potential with VHS, when data's stored digitally you can make a lot of use for it, D-VHS movies can be upto 1080P and look as good as the expensive Blu-Ray, sans the MPAA's DRMs"

Umm, DVHS had an ever worse form of DRM called 5C which is yet to have a widespread easy hack.
Amex Digital does what Steve wouldn't, intros portable Blu-ray burner for Macs {Engadget HD}
Oct 16th 2008 10:49PM What a silly article. Jobs' complaint about blu-ray was about the supposed licensing issues not about being unable to deliver the hardware. There have been mac blu-ray drives and PC blu-ray laptops for some time now. There is nothing special about this drive. There is no blu-ray playback software for the Mac so I'm not sure what "ability to watch and burn Blu-ray Discs" means. Do some fact checking.
Of course we all know the reason for Apple's procrastinating on blu-ray is that they see iTunes/AppleTV as a direct competitor to it.

So obviously he is lying somewhere.

The real reason it took so long to crack BD+ {Engadget HD}
Mar 31st 2008 12:58AM This is total BS. You can go onto Slysoft's own forum or Doom9 and read the posts from Peer himself where he talks about trying to crack BD+ for the last 5 months. He kept mentioning over and over that it was just taking them longer than they anticipated because there was no documentation. He never said anything about sitting on the crack for the last 5 months and waiting for the end of the format war.
If Slysoft was such a big supporter of HDDVD why in the world would they wait until AFTER the format is dead before releasing a crack for BD+? If they released it when the war was still happening it could have actually had some effect. I don't know why they are spreading this nonsense to their customers now. Just say it took you a few months to crack it. Whats the big deal?

Yeah I guess only Paramount and Universal make good movies. Lol.
Enjoy your 2 studios on your cheap player.

Feb 1st 2008 8:04PM Blu-ray Profiles are not necessary either. And since blu-ray sales have been doing so well without frivolous features like PiP and online that should tell you how important those features are to hi-def consumers.
And in fact 90% of blu-ray owners will be getting a FREE update on their PS3.

Jan 31st 2008 4:51PM Not to mention other things like not having 1080p output until over a year after launch. And if you bought a player before that? Well too bad. And I don't think every player supports DTS-MA either. So much for being "fully finished".

Jan 31st 2008 4:41PM Wow thats great that HDDVD is so cheap and "fully working". Sounds like a good buy. Can you tell me where I can get Ratatoulie, Cars, Spider-man, and Die Hard on HDDVD? Thanks.
