Time to set your DVRs for the Fall season {Engadget HD}

Sep 22nd 2009 3:57PM ABC finally got with the program and joined Hulu. As long as you can watch Hulu on your PS3, then you're set.

Ask Engadget HD: What's the best mainstream Blu-ray player? {Engadget HD}

Jun 4th 2009 11:48AM In response to Josh, the one complaint I hear about the Sony S-360 is that there isn't an open/close button on the remote. The previous gen similar to the S-350 but with lighted remote, the BDP-BX1, is plentiful on Ebay and can be had for around $150. The biggest annoyance is that the fast forwarding is jerky, but this may be the case with other players. I prefer the upconversion of my Toshiba HD-A2 to the Sony. If you're looking for better upconversion, you may want to go with the Panasonic BD35. But for solid Blu-ray playback I currently consider the BDP-BX1 to be the best value.

Retailers aren't wasting anytime dropping HD DVD {Engadget HD}

Feb 23rd 2008 11:05AM The profit margins must be much higher on Blu-Ray players. Retailers always push you toward buying the product that makes them the most money obviously.

Is everyone's Hi-Def Netflix queue this backed up? {Engadget HD}

Jan 14th 2008 8:27PM Same problem here with Netflix. My top 6 movies are HD DVDs and they all say Long Wait or Very Long Wait. I switched from Blockbuster a month ago because of the same issue there. I didn't know you could place your account in Hold. I might have to try that. I've been waiting for Blade Runner since it was released.

First Blu-ray Disc with PiP profile 1.1 announced -- players please? {Engadget HD}

Dec 7th 2007 12:31PM I wasn't sure about the video encoders, that's why I said correct me if I'm wrong. I realize now that the term "catching up" sounded like trolling. The 1.1 specification still doesn't require Internet connectivity so technically Blu-Ray is still lacking a feature that the HD DVD spec requires. I agree that the two formats should be very similar technically by mid 2008, especially once 2.0 profile is available.

First Blu-ray Disc with PiP profile 1.1 announced -- players please? {Engadget HD}

Dec 7th 2007 11:57AM Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe profile 1.1 specifies dual video encoders so Bluray is still catching up.
