Buffalo's Blu-ray burner hits 8x, BDA says wha? {Engadget HD}
Jul 26th 2008 4:08PM Hey! Doesnt anyone react to the combination of BD 8x and USB 2.0?
Isn't 8x in the region of ~43 MB/s?
Then how is USB 2.0 supposed to be able to deliver that bandwidth?
Must be some mistake.

Toshiba knows no shame, plans to release super-resolution DVD player {Engadget HD}
May 31st 2008 6:15AM I think that Toshiba is simply responding to the bad marketing job the BD team is conducting in making BD mainstream. They are probably agreeing that this technology will not live long enough to make any good bucks off.
When comparing the complete aspects, DVD is not nearly as inferior to Blu-ray as VHS was to DVD so there might not be reason enough to believe that we will have the same takeover process.
Toshiba sees that BD are not trying hard enough lowering prices and releasing new more stable players, that they see a window of opportunity. Maybe...
Also prices of BD-R media and burners are dropping fast so the BD bootleg market could be just around the corner. One more very heavy blow to an already bleeding marketing plan.
Just my point of view. /Mike
More research asserts that Blu-ray adoption isn't apt to surge soon {Engadget HD}
May 15th 2008 5:39PM Your argument makes sense but blu-ray is wasting valuable time right now. They could be taking over like a storm, but hesitate. Alternatives are evolving faster than ever and there is only a matter of time.
My perspective is I don't want to invest until the deal is good and i feel confident about the player, which can take a while since almost nothing is happening in that department. Some big companies have not yet chosen, blu-ray or online. It's bubbling as we speak and I want to see how it turns out before I start another addiction.
There are alternatives to buying blu-ray and I don't mind using them. The difference is not that noticeable between hd-dvd/blu-ray and x264 if you only own a 40-50 inch tv and have normal viewing distance.
I might feel otherwise when a projector is purchased but at least I haven't done anything I will regret until then.

More research asserts that Blu-ray adoption isn't apt to surge soon {Engadget HD}
May 15th 2008 1:33PM You're assuming that blu-ray will have no competition in quality. That may be the case right this very moment but who knows what tomorrow brings. What other than bandwidth is really keeping the online distribution from providing even better quality than blu-ray, probably nothing. Who's to say there can't be multiple versions whereas one is better and one's size efficient? HDMI LPCM output on the comp and you're rockin'!
Call me bitter if you wish, but it doesn't take a genius to see that the BD team is like Sony, inherently greedy, and has very litte interest about adoption. They are not even trying...

More research asserts that Blu-ray adoption isn't apt to surge soon {Engadget HD}
May 14th 2008 4:05PM Yes shocking indeed. I haven't bought a single movie in a couple of months. Used to buy around 5 hd-dvd's a week since august. I'm not giving one penny to the blue team with this disaster marketing (can't stand java either). I'd rather pay online distribution than the blue team.

Toshiba pushes firmware 3.0 update to first-gen HD DVD players {Engadget HD}
May 13th 2008 4:35PM I'm not surprised about the recent numbers. Since HD DVD dropped out I've given up on buying high def retail movies completely. I get no incentive from the BD team to get in on the action.
I'd rather pay an online movie provider for hd movies than give one penny to the blue team.
Microsoft's Xbox 360 HD DVD player: 269000 sold {Engadget HD}
Dec 18th 2007 11:19PM Just thought I'd mention there have been falcon type 360's out since august. If you manage to find one you will not only notice it's less noisy but also running extremely cool. 65nm cpu (65nm gpu is in the works). Locate the power rating on the box, if it says 175W it should be the falcon, if it's 200+ W it's the old model.

Toshiba planning to undercut Blu-ray, snip MSRP of HD DVD titles {Engadget HD}
Dec 11th 2007 10:35PM Thats so funny. He does get quite repetitive, that little chatterbox. :-)
I'm just happy HD DVD had it's first nice software sale so I too get the chance to stock up. Just as Blu-ray has had all the time (or so it seems). Just now I ordered 32 movies from the Amazon bogo sale, and two close friends bought 18 movies.
We get good quality software and at the same time we show the studios how determined the HD crowd really are. The rank stat swing on highdefdigest.com is incredible. It took a couple of hours for the blu-ray bogo to be completely run over. Maybe it's because they've had it so many times.
Anyway. Just wanted to say, enjoy the good deals fellas! I sure am... cheers!

Strangest "sale" ever...
