Interview: 'Terminator Salvation' Director McG {Cinematical}
May 23rd 2009 4:43PM This movie is due more credit than most critics are giving it. It's certainly a far deal better than the dreadful T3.
I highly doubt the "black" ending would have worked, but the cheesy one they went with was the weakest part of the film, by far. (Won't spoil it.) In all fairness, the ending to a story that has no ending is pretty tricky to pull off and keep Hollywood "handlers" happy enough to let you make another.
Did 'Watchmen' Fail? And Why? {Cinematical}
Mar 16th 2009 9:25PM Watchmen is niche, cult, difficult material presented in a rated R package. It's not for the masses, and I'm pleasantly surprised it has done as well as it has at the box office.
The value to WB of bringing this property to film is so much more than domestic box office. This is a franchise that will continue to generate revenue for a very long time, and the theatrical exhibition just juices the appetite for everything else.
New iPod shuffle requires extra adapter for third-party headphones {Engadget}
Mar 11th 2009 2:10PM It would be a brilliant marketing move to sell these guys with a $10 iTunes card for $50 @ Walmart, Target, Best Buy. The number of new, young users brought into the iTunes ecosystem would be massive. Users that would not only buy more music for the convenience rather than stealing, but also upgrade to more capable iPods in the future.
New iPod shuffle requires extra adapter for third-party headphones {Engadget}
Mar 11th 2009 2:07PM For a certain subset of users this little guy will be perfect. Right now, you must be content with Apple's headphones. Having to use an adapter definitely makes the whole exercise pointless. In the future, though, headphone manufacturers can include the controls directly. I don't see it as an "epic fail" just typical Apple thinking. They design certain products to be targeted very specifically and have never given a damn about backward compatibility. There are so many other iPod options, especially the Nano, that I doubt this new design will alienate that many users.
Is 'Delgo' the Biggest Flop of All Time? {Cinematical}
Dec 17th 2008 11:37AM I think the movie got decent promotion, I don't watch much TV and I saw ads. I know my kids saw ads, but they weren't clamoring to see it. I think the problem is that the film looks like ass. Sorry.
Apple chimes in to debunk those Mac mini / iMac rumors {Engadget}
Nov 3rd 2008 11:21PM Apple keeps the mini alive not for home users, but for the myriad of embedded/industrial/enterprise/education (think kiosks, casinos, digital signage, POS/POP, etc.) purposes that it serves really well. You'd be amazed at how many applications are Mac Mini powered behind-the-scenes.
Sure a spec bump would be nice, but it's the form factor and OS X that make it "just work".
Memorex intros $269 MVBD-2510 Blu-ray player {Engadget}
Sep 18th 2008 9:41AM I agree with the BD-Live comments, and raise you with, who really cares about audio processing within a cheapo player ... better left to a receiver.
For sub-$200 all I need it to do if pass a digital signal unmolested to the display and receiver.
Mac OS X 10.5.3 released {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
May 28th 2008 6:12PM Anybody running Apple Pro apps (Aperture, FCP, etc.) do the upgrade yet?
TSA can't believe MacBook Air is a real laptop, causes owner to miss flight {Engadget}
Mar 10th 2008 9:08AM Anon, is correct. I'm flagged in TSA's database for the "special" search for every, single flight. I'm patted down and my gear is swabbed and tested every single time, and I've never missed a flight by arriving one hour prior to boarding. And yes, I have an Air, and yes, they do scrutinize it more than they do your run of the mill clunky Dell, which would be a lot easier to stuff with C4!
New 'Iron Man' Trailer Premieres! {Cinematical}
Feb 29th 2008 9:32AM Holy crap. Usually as more and more trailers are released, as they get longer and longer, a movie looks worse and worse. Somehow "Iron Man" keeps looking better and better.
In addition to everything else that just seems to "work" in Favreau's universe, I think Bridges has the makings of one hell of a villain.
