Apple chimes in to debunk those Mac mini / iMac rumors {Engadget}
Nov 3rd 2008 11:21PM Apple keeps the mini alive not for home users, but for the myriad of embedded/industrial/enterprise/education (think kiosks, casinos, digital signage, POS/POP, etc.) purposes that it serves really well. You'd be amazed at how many applications are Mac Mini powered behind-the-scenes.
Sure a spec bump would be nice, but it's the form factor and OS X that make it "just work".
Memorex intros $269 MVBD-2510 Blu-ray player {Engadget}
Sep 18th 2008 9:41AM I agree with the BD-Live comments, and raise you with, who really cares about audio processing within a cheapo player ... better left to a receiver.
For sub-$200 all I need it to do if pass a digital signal unmolested to the display and receiver.

May 28th 2008 6:12PM Anybody running Apple Pro apps (Aperture, FCP, etc.) do the upgrade yet?
TSA can't believe MacBook Air is a real laptop, causes owner to miss flight {Engadget}
Mar 10th 2008 9:08AM Anon, is correct. I'm flagged in TSA's database for the "special" search for every, single flight. I'm patted down and my gear is swabbed and tested every single time, and I've never missed a flight by arriving one hour prior to boarding. And yes, I have an Air, and yes, they do scrutinize it more than they do your run of the mill clunky Dell, which would be a lot easier to stuff with C4!
New 'Iron Man' Trailer Premieres! {Cinematical}
Feb 29th 2008 9:32AM Holy crap. Usually as more and more trailers are released, as they get longer and longer, a movie looks worse and worse. Somehow "Iron Man" keeps looking better and better.
In addition to everything else that just seems to "work" in Favreau's universe, I think Bridges has the makings of one hell of a villain.
Unsanity rides again onto Leopard {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Feb 28th 2008 10:46AM Such ignorant vitriol. Read their blog. APE is not the devil. 99% of the issues I've heard attributed to APE over the years have had little or nothing to do with it.
I find Windowshade and Fruitmenu very useful, and am so happy to have Silk back so that I can replace the fugly Lucida Grande.
If you're not interested tricking out your mac with aftermarket mod's, don't do it. But don't slam those that do, or the company that makes this possible.
Apple store down -- that time of the month again? {Engadget}

Apple's MacBook Air is officially shipping {Engadget}
Jan 30th 2008 2:13PM Everybody crying about the lack of an optical drive and the lack of ethernet reminds me of the furor over the original iMac's lack of a floppy drive.
This is Apple thinking a little different, a little ahead of the curve, and a significant portion of their intended minority market share lives at that sweet spot.
- All of my computers and printers and even my 360 connects wirelessly. I haven't staying a hotel room without wi-fi for years. I have no little to no need for ethernet on an ultra-portable.
- I've completely skipped the HD disc format war. I can download HD movies through my 360. I can download music and movies via iTunes. I have little to no need for an optical disc on an ultra-portable.
Sure I wish I could upgrade the HD and RAM. No I wouldn't want this to be my only computer, or my "main" work computer but that doesn't mean that this sucker isn't going to travel with me everywhere I go.
Apple's MacBook Air is officially shipping {Engadget}
Jan 30th 2008 2:04PM
but as far as I can tell it's no better than an asus EEE PC
I sure hope you don't work CSI, then.
Bigger, better screen. More RAM. More storage space. More powerful processor. Full size keyboard. And on, and on.
MacBook Air shipments beginning for the earliest adopters {Engadget}
Jan 29th 2008 4:27PM The Air is an ultra-portable with Apple sensibility through and through. There IS a market for this product, and the market has been crying for it for some time.
Does it have the HP of my 8 core MacPro? No.
Does it even have the expandability of my 17" MBP? No.
Would I gladly trade all of that power expandability to have a sexy 3 pound email/browser/writing/light design to take with me on my frequent travels? Yes. No question. Ordered it within minutes of the keynote, should arrive on the 1st.
Is it overpriced? The pundits said the iMac was overpriced (and without a floppy! Gasp!) The pundits said that the iPod was overpriced. The only opinions that matters are those of the target market. My guess is that there are a LOT of folks just like me that consider it money well spent to take 4 pounds off of our shoulders and have a machine that we can actually open on an airplane.
