Finally, a full-function IR remote solution for the PS3 {Engadget HD}

Jan 26th 2008 1:00AM I have a PS3 and the BT remote is annoying.
Having said that BT is better than IR in many ways - its just that no-one else uses it.
Because of the PS3, all of the all-in-one manufacturers will right now be designing BT compatibility in their future remotes, and once these are available, I can see BT being used alot more in TV's etc, as the other manufacturers wont have to worry about compatability.
Its a pretty bold step by Sony, but in 10 years everything might be BT

HD DVD fires back, slashes hardware & software prices {Engadget HD}

Jan 14th 2008 2:34PM You dont exactly need clairvoyance to predict the market share as its has pretty much always been 1:2

Looking in my crystal ball, I predict 1:2000 in 12 months :D

Select Blu-ray titles offering $10 back if you own DVD version {Engadget HD}

Jan 14th 2008 2:30PM It doesnt really matter who wins ( or has won ) - just so long as someone wins.

which Id bought for $99 a few months ago, I'd be happy to get $ 50 for it now and you could probably ebay your free movies as well.

Jan 14th 2008 2:20PM If I was Sony Id offer a one month $50 trade in on HD DVD players against BD players. I think they could probably take a good number of HDDVD players off the market and sell a few PS3's to the type of customers who buy lots of movies.

HD DVD needs to be kicked while its down!

Jan 14th 2008 2:05PM This is just a publicity stunt. Most people would have bought these DVD's years ago, so how many people are going to be able to prove the DVD purchase?
It will be useful for salespeople who are trying to sell BD players.

Customer : It looks good, but I dont want to replace all my DVD's again

Salesperson : You can get $10 back on DVD movies you replace with BD.
( SP Fails to mention the terms )

Customer : sounds good - give me that BD player!

Warner goes Blu-ray exclusive {Engadget HD}

Jan 4th 2008 8:33PM Warners always wanted Blu-ray to be region free so I wouldnt be suprised if theres been some kind of deal. This week would be a good time to announce it to keep alot of people happy. Also SonyBMG finally decided to got DRM free along with all the other music labels so I think that the tide is turning against DRM. It pretty obvious that in a year or two you will be able to copy Blu-ray discs anyway - just like DVD. Theyres to much of a market for it for someone not to exploit it.

Jan 4th 2008 8:00PM Guys Blu -ray will be the new DVD. Sony was given a lot of abuse this year for putting the Blu-ray player in the PS3, but I think that things are turning out exactly as they planned.

I own a PS3 and I more than happy with it. I stream movies and music from my pc upstairs wireless into my av in the lounge onto my plasma. Im writing this now on my wireless keyboard on the net through my PS3 Ive even got an external usb harddrive so its basically a pc in my living room. And now you can stream stuff of it anywhere remotely to a PSP which you can also now use for skype! Im pretty to tempted to get one of those too now and Ive noticed their sales have rocketed, no doubt because of this. And of course the PS3 is a 1080p Blu-ray player updatable to profile whatever as well!
On the console side, until recently the games have been pretty patchy and the console price has been high. But now the prices have evened out ( taking into account the 360s add-ons ) and the big PS3 exclusives are coming out. Microsoft sold 25% ( 4 million ) of their 360's since they after Halo in September and remember it was lanched 2 years ago. How many people do you think will buy PS3's in the next 12 months when games like Grand Theft Auto IV, Killzone 2, Wipeout HD, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Gran Turismo 5 come out? I think that this time next year there will be around 20 million blu-ray players out there ( mainly PS3's )
Or.... Like nfinity and TruthTeller...I could be very very wrong! :D
