Netflix sees 30% rise in profit, expects 500,000 Blu-ray subscribers {Engadget HD}

Oct 21st 2008 1:16PM Funnel some of that profit into beefing up your video servers Netflix! Based on recent posts from themediamall.com/PlayOn - the only possible reason I keep getting stutters in my stream is on your end!

Hoping maybe the Xbox 360 Netflix streaming coming next month is a better experience.

T-Mobile launches BlackBerry Pearl 8220, available today for $149.99 {Engadget Mobile}

Oct 14th 2008 2:56PM I may consider the flip, if I can find it in the store. I managed to get 4.5 on my 8700g, but an SDHC slot and the camera would be nice.

Called T-Mo this weekend just to check our contract expiration dates.... ended up with $10 off our plan (but dropped to 600 min from 1000 very unused mins), 1/2 price unlimited family texting, free M-to-M, kept MyFaves and we get to upgrade all our phones (3) with the upgrade pricing.

My wife was the last to upgrade... which locked us in to sometime in 2010 anyway. Now we're set to expire 10/10/10. Should be easy enough to remember.

DVDPlay bucks the trend, actually drops prices of movie rentals {Engadget HD}

Oct 7th 2008 5:15PM We really like DVDPlay. It's just up the street at the local Safeway and we almost always stop and check for new titles after picking up groceries. I'll take the price drop - don't care why they're doing it.

I need to go back and check if there's any Blu-Ray in ours. My wife usually picks up the DVDPlay flix and wouldn't notice.

We also have a 2-out Netflix - mainly for Blu, and with the release of the latest PlayOn and Netflix streaming finally working (after an email to their support for a new .dll) - I'm regretting dropping out internet speed to 1.5Mbps to save a few dollars.

PlayOn Media Server streams Netflix to PS3 / Xbox 360 today {Engadget HD}

Oct 2nd 2008 10:06PM Not sure if it's ready for primetime. Installed, added a couple movies to my Instant Queue. Even when streaming zero content PlayOn was pulling 25% CPU utilization on a quad core system. Tried watching on the PS3 and the 360 - FAIL.

Roku anyone?

DISH Network 1080p VOD preview {Engadget HD}

Aug 4th 2008 7:12PM I'm with Ron. Where's the new 1080p output option? Am I missing something? In fact, I'd rather have a feature I once enjoyed on the Cox STB where it would switch between 480p or 1080i depending on whether it was on an SD-only station or HD station. That way I could use my XBR's wide zoom instead of the 722s generic stretch.

Rhapsody ditches (some) DRM, selling MP3s with Verizon and Yahoo {Engadget Mobile}

Jun 30th 2008 2:37PM I can listen to my Rhapsody tracks thru Orb - don't really need the mp3 versions of songs. Since I use the Rhapsody To Go features, I deal with the drm. Nice that they offer the option though if I want to dust off my old 2G iPod color.

DISH Network launches SCI FI HD and USA HD! {Engadget HD}

Apr 18th 2008 5:51PM Was just about to call DTV to make the switch. Not sure now. Looks like Dish is trying at least.

Amazon offers $50 credit for those who purchased a HD DVD player {Engadget HD}

Apr 10th 2008 4:59PM Kyle - just got my email for $50 credit. Bought my 360 HD-DVD add on back in Sept.

keep hope alive!

PS3 firmware 2.20 bringing BD-Live interactive Blu-ray this month {Engadget HD}

Mar 21st 2008 12:56PM Read this an tried a System Update last night just out of curiosity. Actually got a 2.17 update... wonder what was in that?

Where Is HD? lays out your options when selecting a provider {Engadget HD}

Mar 14th 2008 6:49PM Now I remember why I switched from Cox AZ to Dish Network. I was about to switch back since the cost for HD is definitely less with cable, but I see why - there's hardly any HD channels offered. The wife would need HGTV-HD and TLC-HD to care about a switch. Now I either threaten Dish that I'm moving to D* or tell D* to sweeten their deal to gain back a former customer. The HD channels that matter are common - but Dish does make it nice to have 2 receivers and up to 3 tv's connected. And I KNOW - only one of those tv's would get HD. My setup is 1 hdtv and 2 non-hdtv's anyway for now.
