Apr 30th 2008 1:40PM Why wouldn't this be legal? Many companies offer discounts to specific groups of people. As an employee at a university I can get educational discounts on books, software, computers, etc. I have to provide full documentation of my employment to get these discounts and the companies do verify it. This is pretty much the same thing. They're offering a service to people they feel deserve it and don't want it abused so they're making sure you can document your need for it.

Apr 30th 2008 1:35PM How many teens have a certification of a disability? You have to fill out a certification form and send it into AT&T to qualify for this rate. I don't think you'll find a bunch of teenagers using this plan unless they really want to risk fraud charges.

Mar 25th 2008 9:47AM How the hell do you get "zero local programming or local advertising" on a nationwide satellite service? That would effectively mean no advertising at all, no US news at all, no US sports at all, etc. All advertising will be local to somebody listening, as would all news involving anything going on inside the US, any sports events, etc. I'm listening to a talk channel on Sirius right now and just heard an ad for Geico insurance, which has offices all around the country. Wouldn't that be considered local to virtually everybody? Sirius also carries all NFL games during football season. Wouldn't those be considered local to the cities where the games are being played? You can't "black out" geographic locations with a satellite so you'd have to get rid of all this programming entirely if those idiots at Clear Channel had their way.

Mar 12th 2008 8:41PM Is it just me or do the Taliban claims seem like total BS? I seriously doubt the military is relying on commercial cell towers for their own communication, so this likely won't impact them at all. And if the military is using the towers to track Taliban militants then all they need to do is turn off their phones. If they're really paranoid then they can pull the batteries out of them. This is just a thinly veiled attempt by the Taliban to force their totalitarian views on as much of the Afghan public as possible.

Mar 3rd 2008 9:33AM Anybody know of a good external RAID enclosure that could be plugged into this USB port? I'd feel a lot more comfortable doing Time Machine backups to a RAID volume than a single drive built into this thing.

Mar 1st 2008 4:16PM Given that it's just a standard SATA drive inside this thing I wonder how difficult it would be to attach an external eSATA RAID box (like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816133003) and use that as a more robust backup/NAS solution. I guess the biggest difficulty would be formatting the RAID enclosure properly if the Time Machine expects it to be formatted before it recognizes it.
