The New Xbox Experience: What do you think? {Joystiq Xbox}
Nov 19th 2008 1:06PM not a huge fan of this at all -- only played around with it for a half hour or so before I came into work.
I think the biggest issue i have is that most things are reorganized, and not necessarily in the most intuitive of places.
One of the things I liked about the old xbox 360 UI was its ease of use. it's a video game player, first and foremost as far as I'm concerned. All of the other stuff is just icing. While some of the features added, like disabling autoplay and stuff is nice... I think they could have done without the whole new "look and feel" -- not to mention, ripping off the Mii concept from Nintendo for their avatars.
Ideally, there should be a way to go back to the "stripped down" version of the UI -- for those of us who just use the xbox to play video games.
This is like jumping from Office 2003 to 2007 -- largely the same functionality wrapped up in a difficult to use interface.
Enjoy drinks on a flight? It's going to cost you {Gadling}
Jun 13th 2008 1:44PM Sounds like a bigger scam than just decreasing revenues -- I wouldn't be surprised if the airline wasn't in cahoots somehow with the food service operators of the various airports. Since you can't bring your own bottle of water, juice, soda, alcohol, etc. through the TSA checkpoints, you're forced to buy something either in the air, or at one of the overpriced vending machines / stores at the airport.
Maybe bring your own empty water bottle and hunt for a non-existent water fountain on your concourse and fill it up before flying?
sheesh.
The best way to cook your veggies? The microwave {That's Fit}
Mar 25th 2008 12:21PM two of my biggest time-savers with the microwave (aside from thawing frozen leftovers) is for baked potatoes. Poke them with a fork all over, you can cook them halfway through in the microwave and then finish them off in the oven.
My other favorite when ears of corn are available is to wrap
The 5: Fitness faux pas to avoid {That's Fit}
Mar 17th 2008 1:14PM I'd like to add three more...
1. The no extremely loud grunting rule. It's one thing to grunt a bit when you're hefting weight that's on the heavy side -- but there's no need to bother everyone else if you're making signs like you're giving birth.
2. The gym is not for socializing. It's annoying to see a group of people essentially hogging a machine or piece of equipment and not really using it -- they're just socializing. if you want to do that, get on the treadmills and yammer away.
3. Talking on the cellphone. Nobody wants to hear anybody else's drama about what they had for dinner, or who dumped who. If you've got enough breath to maintain a conversation without sounding winded, you're not working out hard enough.
Comcast readies new batch of HD channels for Reston, Virginia {Engadget HD}
Feb 8th 2008 11:18AM I live in DC -- and we've had a number of those channels for a while -- and had SciFi HD, along with USA HD and a few others added in early January. The slew of new channels just appeared on their online channel lineup a few weeks before they were rolled out, and we didn't get any official notification that they were going to be added. Just happened.
The Metropolitan, Luxury on the Cheap in Kansas City {Luxist}
Nov 5th 2007 10:26AM Luxury amenities perhaps, but would it have killed them to make the floorplans a bit more interesting? The building construction itself looks like it was put up in the 1960s.
