Sony's big plans for OLED HDTVs may slip to next year {Engadget HD}

Aug 18th 2009 12:16AM I agree, but is the marketplace ready for yet another improved flat panel tech ??

Both plasma & LCD have evolved immensely, the top rated panels offer exceptional PQ for the dollar (boasting: my KRP-500M is better than anything I've seen, under $2000). They're constantly improving, becoming more affordable, efficient also. 52% (?) of American households now have a HDTV, mostly within the past 2-3 yrs. The others likely don't feel the need to upgrade or can't afford the cost.

I don't see a large percentage of present HDTV owners eager to upgrade to a new (unproven) tech that would be MUCH MORE costly than their current HDTV. The PQ improvement would be, 20%, 30 % ??

From the CRT to the current LCD/plasma WAS A MAJOR improvement in PQ and styling (flat panel), with the market responding overwhelmingly. I don't see the expensive OLED inspiring the public to buy another new HDTV.

VIZIO introduces new XVT, M and E series HDTVs {Engadget HD}

Jun 8th 2009 6:55PM As a Kuro KRP-500M owner ( plus the 5020 ...... BOTH look incredible, the most accurate PQ I've seen, I must be biased) - I noticed Mr Wilkinson's remarks when asked if the new Vizio would rank with a Kuro :

Posted Sat Jun 6, 2009, 9:29 PM — By Scott Wilkinson

I'd keep the Kuro, definitely. I prefer plasma over LCD, even with LED local dimming, especially in a dark room. Plasma has no problem with off-axis image degradation, and it generally produces better shadow detail. And as any outer-space shot will clearly demonstrate, plasma reveals many more stars than any LCD I've seen so far.

The Vizio is an incredible value for a local-dimming LCD, costing less than half of what any other such set would be today. This is why I'm excited about it. But it still can't beat a good plasma, especially a Kuro. On the other hand, if you often watch the TV in a well-lit room, a good LCD will often look better than plasma in that environment, at least as long as you're on-axis.

ps......... my 5020 cost $2075, the KRP $1600

Apr 29th 2009 9:27AM Plasma is junk.. and it's heavy junk to boot. - says koehler83 (girlie man?)

(he must be cranky this morning)

Kuro owner here, happy with my 5020 and the perfect picture quality, few are finer. Buying the Kuro KRP-500M this afternoon (an Elite panel actually) for the living room. 69lbs ain't heavy, cmon.

52" Samsung LCD = 67 lbs.

Pioneer KRP-600M plasma showing up with cracked screens? {Engadget HD}

Mar 29th 2009 7:28PM Both of my 50" kuro's arrived perfect ........... plus the seller guaranteed satisfaction or free replacement with ANY problem upon delivery. You'd be surprised how many folks buy for the cheapest price ONLY - online/ebay or not from an unauthorized Pio dealer and take the chance that nothing bad will happen during the panels shipment to their residence.

Poll: Were you / are you planning to buy a plasma? {Engadget HD}

Feb 28th 2009 1:22PM The same knuckleheads who spread the myths about plasma for years ............. (see below)

http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/features/3101/what-is-killing-the-plasma-tv.html

.................. will now declare that ALL manufacturer's will be leaving plasma (they're NOT) and the naive potential buyers will be scared off by this false info also. All of these "plasma is dead" articles won't help at all.

VIZIO steamrolls Q4, breaks all kinds of records {Engadget HD}

Feb 20th 2009 12:29PM adding ..........

A co worker had a 3 yr old Vizio plasma from costco ...... that dies in JAN. I told him to get the 46" Panny plasma to replce it, the better tech & quality would be a big upgrade (both were $1000 )

Nope, he got the Vizio 47" LCD - he ignored every link of info I sent him praising the Panny over the Vizio. The gal at costco mentioned the 120hz refresh and THAT sold him !!!

but I tried.

Feb 20th 2009 12:24PM As a owner of 3 KURO's and follower of the HD "news" - I'd only wish Pioneer would have immitated Vizio & Sony regarding a S I M P L E marketing plan to emphasize their outstanding plasma. Its easy to second guess now, of all the circumstances that lead to Pioneer dropping plasma marketing would have been the easiest to correct. How many one on one comparisons or HDTV shootouts obviously show that the KURO was far superior. Oh well, time passes by.

ps - each of my 50" Kuro's (5080 , 5020) cost $2000 twelve months after they hit the market, thats a good price!!
