Snow Leopard: what's broken (or working) for you? {Engadget}

Sep 3rd 2009 8:15PM What's broken for me so far:

- X11 forwarding over ssh doesn't work, which means I can't host remote X11 apps anymore. I'd be rolling back to 10.5 over this along if I didn't still have a G5 tower that's obviously never going to take the upgrade.
- Vine Server is "wonky" when controlling the Mac from a remote VNC session. Most notably, keyboard input stops working when I use Spaces to switch desktops, until I hit a ket on the Mac, then it comes back. Also, when I do the Ctrl-arrow key sequence to switch Spaces, the visual overlay doesn't go away until I click on a window's titlebar (and then, as said before, key input doesn't work until I hit a local key).

Nov 7th 2008 2:11PM I'm already eating crow for buying a BDP-S350 for $260 a month ago - amazon's now selling them for $224. Live and learn...

Apple's Steve Jobs calls Blu-ray "a bag of hurt" {Engadget HD}

Oct 14th 2008 2:30PM Joseph: you'll probably be waiting quite a while then - given Apple's increased emphasis on HD video sales via iTunes, I don't expect them to have an interest in helping the competition - especially when licensing requires pervasive DRM support at the OS, device driver, and even hardware level (for example, requiring that HD data be encrypted *on the internal PCI bus* to deter theoretical bus-level video capture hacks).

Number port stats suggest curious trends in iPhone 3G launch {Engadget Mobile}

Jul 22nd 2008 4:28PM Actually, you can only cancel over the SMS price increase if you don't have a SMS package on your account, as it's only the price of SMS outside of plans that is going up.

Number port stats suggest curious trends in iPhone 3G launch {Engadget Mobile}

Jul 22nd 2008 4:26PM First, you'd have to unlock it, which hasn't been done yet. Second, T-Mobile's 3G service won't work on the iPhone 3G due to the difference in frequency bands between T-Mo's and AT&T's systems. EDGE will still work on T-Mobile, however.

So unless the GPS is an absolute necessity, you're better off buying a used Rev 1 iPhone and unlocking that.

iPhone Dev Team officially Pwns firmware 2.0 on video {Engadget}

Jul 11th 2008 5:56PM Actually, this is huge if you want to use your iPhone outside the US without paying AT&T's roaming fees by buying a prepaid SIM from a local carrier. I do this every time I go abroad.
