Who in their right mind would buy a Blu-ray player right now? {Engadget HD}
May 2nd 2008 12:38PM Easy, do we have to bring the absurdity of this current political season into HD? Can't we just agree this is a politics free zone? Please?
Who in their right mind would buy a Blu-ray player right now? {Engadget HD}
May 2nd 2008 12:36PM Come on guys, seriously, you people need to get a grip. This isn't make or break time for Blu-ray, that time will be 2008 holiday season and 2009. If Blu-ray doesn't ramp up at that time, then there may be trouble but taking a snapshot of the market now and calling it a failure or weak, is premature. We just got the last major studio to come on board and announce some title. Wait until the summer blockbusters to drive HD interests and holiday promos. With the push for digital switch over, the marketing is in full swing to lure potential customers who may be wanting to upgrade their TV before it happens (yes there is no technical reason, blah blah blah but we all know the marketing will happen that way and already has).
I've been right so far with my predictions (as opposed to Truth Tellers predictions) so bear with me. Blu-ray's test will be 2008 holiday and 2009 . If the magic doesn't happen then, start worrying....
Ask Engadget HD: Is switching from cable to satellite worth it? {Engadget HD}
Apr 30th 2008 12:59PM I switched and I am glad. Time Warner Cable is too far behind. I now get to enjoy Battlestar Galactica in HD on DirecTV. I did my own fishing of the walls and directed the installation. Anytime the installer said that would cost extra, I did it myself and worked with him. The result is the install went my way and didn't cost me anything extra....the guy wanted to drill a hole in my laminate floor in the living room. I told him absolutely not and that we needed to go thru the actic. That's when he laid the $9.95 per fished wall outlet on me and then I told him I would do that part and he had no choice but to agree to it...
Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending April 20th, 2008 {Engadget HD}

2009 will be year for HD disc media, 2008 and prior are/were the ALPHA and BETA periods, now that we have a single format, the HD TV markets is gaining momentum, the 2008 holiday season will be the true "launch" of HD disc media for mainstream...so all of your doomsday talk is laughable.
Again, you have been wrong about HD disc media on all accounts, why should *anyone* put any stock in anything you say? Just stop already, you're embarrassing yourself....

DirecTV relies on Where Is HD? data for quantity comparisons {Engadget HD}
Apr 4th 2008 9:01PM Bye Bye Time Warner, I ordered DirecTv HD DVR package today. Will be getting all my locals OTA until DirecTv offers them via satellite. Time warner, you could have kept my business had you simply kept a stream of HD channels coming....but too little too late...
HDPC-20 to be used in DirecTV Media Center beta test {Engadget HD}
Apr 4th 2008 1:23PM Anyone have any idea when the DirecTV AM21 Addon will be available? I went to order DirecTV and wanted HD DVR with OTA record ability and they said that can't do it yet because the HR20 is hard to find and the AM21 isn't released. So unless they find and HR20 or release the AM21, I'm stuck with Time Warner Cable....
