Xbox 360 Wireless N adapter live in the UK, US release still a mystery {Joystiq}

Nov 10th 2009 11:53AM Feel free to overlook this, to keep the fanboy war going but....no major retailer? Really Joystiq?

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11501393&whse=BC&Ne=5000001+4000000&eCat=BC|25429|57455&N=4018117%204294967208&Mo=7&No=2&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&topnav=

and I quote "This product is scheduled to be released on November 10, 2009."

Xbox 360 802.11n WiFi adapter reviewed by FCC {Joystiq}

Sep 17th 2009 6:15PM Wow. So everyone's whining about wireless not being included..... Does it even matter?

I won't be buying one because everywhere I take one of my 360's I plug in thru ethernet.

Who cares about speeds? I understand wireless N's range increase, and that's all fine and good. But how fast is your speed to the net? Last time I checked DS-3/ T-3s weren't offered by many cable companys or phone companys for residential internet access. SO WHO CARES how fast your console can link? Your bottle neck has been and will still be your provider if you live in the US.

(Disclaimer: I do understand that there are those exceptions out there in the business world with an OC-3 or larger setup. So, yes in the RARE exception that you have a LAN party with 20 or so consoles linking up over Wireless -N to share that massive wad of tasty internet, this doesn't apply to you.)

Ska MAED an Indie game and put Z0MB1ES!!!1 in it {Joystiq Xbox}

Aug 20th 2009 6:42PM Ummmmm, since CrimsonLand (one of the best from Reflexive IMO) was out there before 360 was even for sale, so this being something of a 'complete rip' is pretty much you saying, "hey look at me, I'm talking out of my @ss..."

How's the iPhone OS 3.0 upgrade going for you? {Engadget}

Jun 17th 2009 6:55PM So far, not so good.....

Pretty sad when you think about it.... I realize everyone and their brother is trying to update right now...but you'd think that their servers could at least handle the volume. 'Let's tout a HUGE update for months....then not have the infrastructure to handle it'.... that's a good plan!

For those that would say 'it is the first day after all....' then I would say...Guess what, if I used that excuse with my boss for server farm I administer....I wouldn't have a job.

Sony announces new PS3 motion controller {Engadget}

Jun 8th 2009 5:46PM "Sony have taken the concept, made it work absolutely perfectly and have demonstrated actual code to show it's all happening in honest to god realtime"

- yep ,your right, real time in a room, with no textures, only solid colors and what appears to be 64, 128, or 256 levels of shading when the flashlight was demoed.

"MS on the other hand have faked a video of an idea, which will by it's nature suffer from crippling lag and inaccuracy, will almost certainly require a noticeable portion of your Console's CPU attention to enable and has no effing buttons, meaning that every single action in game will require a movement large and deliberate enough for the system to see."

- How certain are you? Are you saying that the PS3 solution will not require any CPU resources from the CELL? You saw a computer track a dot and accept button inputs. That was all. Your thinking is a bit linear / narrow. PS3 did it with 1 existing camera and a blue tooth controller with a color dot representing the point of interest. Are you truly certain that NATAL cannot be built to allow the two internal cameras to detect the movement of the person, process that information and then transmit that information as simple controller inputs? Your saying that the new hardware that we (the consumers) know nothing about cannot possibly have processors and firmware built directly into it the provide that need for horsepower before providing that processed information the gaming console?

I don't care either way at this point, because nothing is out on the market, I can't buy either solution yet, I've not seen any games built for either solution. Get your head out of your PS3's HDMI port and start realizing that there may be more than one system out there can meet the needs of consumers.

"MS on the other hand have faked a video of an idea" - One last thing here.... Not only is a prototype working with Burnout: Paradise as stated by others, there is video of people playing that game, and in that video, the developers from MS stated that DEV kits have shipped to the game developers....so the 'idea' as you put it, is a bit more reality that your willing to admit.

Good luck to all the motion control / tracking contestants. Let the consumers pick the true winner of this contest.

Sony announces new PS3 motion controller {Engadget}

Jun 8th 2009 5:25PM It looks good, but I'm not sure I'm buying it, or Natal at this point. The issue for me is why I like my 360 and PS3 over my Wii....graphics. I play 360 games @ 1080, no lag. I play my PS3 games @ 1080, no lag. I play my Wii game @ 480, yes no lag, but the graphics can't compare.

The question I have for the PS3 is clearly, it is using a bluetooth controller to communicate with the PS3, and the Eye attachment. Ok, so where is the tracking processing being done? The Cell right? Can't be done anywhere else. If MS wanted to do this, they could have already done it with the Vision Camera.

With Natal, there is at least a chance that the image processing and motion tracking is being done in the natal package and then sending those signals to the 360 for placement in the environment. So it's possible the overhead for the 360 will be minimal. Where as the overhead for the same functions will have to be absorbed totally by the PS3 Cell.

The other thing I wonder about is that while the 1 to 1 was impressive, the graphics looked very low res. Solid surfaces, solid textures, minimal shading (256, maybe?) So it looked very speedy, in an environment that looked native to a Wii on the screen. Put it in a high resolution game - Little Big Planet? And see how responsive the 1 to 1 is. Watching the video (admittedly, it was from a streaming internet source) the sound appeared to lag when swinging. I would love to see this demo posted to PSN so I can see it clearly.

As far as fighting game goes, how are you going to play it with this? Push a button for your legs?

I was impressed by the Natal video showing that it would track legs so movement would be everything. Not just the arms. I want to see the voice print recognition, as well as the facial recognition demonstrated with MILO to be ported and demonstrated for game usage.

I am impressed by the PS3 video showing that there was very accurate movement. But again, to offer voice print or work recognition would be more software tweaks for the PS3 OS and handled by the Cell. That Natal could process internally, to say nothing of being able to offer facal recognition.

I think the next six to ten months are going be very interesting when it comes to listening to the pros and cons of both of these new and exciting technologies.

Logitech Harmony Adapter for Playstation 3 -- official, real, and in our hands {Engadget}

May 12th 2009 1:21PM I can tell you why, simply becuase you type IN ALL CAPS!

Personally, I prefer to have an IR to BT setup that will work with two harmony remotes that I already own. That way I don't have to spend 100+ dollars for a new remote, I only spend 60 to get two remotes existing remotes to work. Hmmm, 60 vs. 200+ dollars....

Is it really a tough decision?

Best Baseball Gadgets {Switched.com}

Apr 8th 2009 5:15PM Thanks for the gadget info! While the new Yankee Stadium that cost a cool 1.3 Billion, without gold plated urinals no less, has a 59 x 101 foot screen, the Renovated Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City has a nice crisp 100 x 85 foot HD screen in place since last year, new ribbon signage, and a second LED board in the outfield wall the match the one put in place in 08. All this an much more for only 250 Million.... Where's the love? ;-)

One reason for the MLB gameday is definitely the streaming audio so I can go to each game, using my ipod touch to connect to the WiFi network at the K and listen to the play by play. It may sound tacky, but it's definitely nice some times to hear information that you can't always get from just watching.

Ten Forgotten Xbox Games that Deserve a Sequel {Joystiq Xbox}

Jan 23rd 2009 3:30PM I kept wishing that Star Wars : Republic Commando would get a sequel - SW: RC- The Search for SEV. But alas it never happened. It wasn't a ground breaking game, but it was still a good squad based shooter that was set in the SW universe? Can you really go wrong?
