Paramount delays, recalls Jack Ryan HD DVD set {Engadget HD}
Oct 18th 2007 2:41PM Dude seriously, the fact that they didn't include a traditional top menu structure is NOT a mistake. You didn't get slighted. Many Warner next-gen titles don't have a top menu. The disc goes directly to the film and when you hit the MENU button the menu comes up as an overlay usually from the bottom of the screen. You can still access scene selections, language/audio setup and special features (assuming of course that the company has actually remembered to include them). It's making you guys sound pretty ignorant about next-gen discs if you keep referring to that like it's a huge oversight. No special features = someone getting fired. No top menu = not that big a deal, and certainly nothing confined to this release.

Umm....about that. A lot of high-def discs start the movie sans a traditional "top menu" structure. The menu is a pop-up overlay that slides up from the bottom or in from the side and has all the familiar choices. While it's absolutely nuts for these discs to be labeled as SPECIAL EDITIONS and list bonus features that somehow didn't end up on the discs, it's not a limitation or a mistake that the discs start playing the movie instead of going to a main menu screen.
