A Note to the MPAA = Promotion works better than prevention {Blog Maverick}
Aug 11th 2008 4:06PM Nice article but I can't agree with promoting stuff again. I stopped going to the theatres because hardly any content is worth the 15$ - 20$ anymore. Most movies now are sleezy.
Also with buying content, where to these prices come from? Mars? In one end, who in their right mind will follow CSI completely at 40€ for half a season... 13 episodes which all are resolved by a hair found... On the other, who can wait 2 years after US release before the DVD's are available in europe and then still not be tempted to download them?
There's more to it to fix this than just make commercials and draw people back to pay for theatres and buy content... Since you are rich enough, hire me and i'll tell yah :-)
Just kidding.
It's refreshing to see someone finally admits the numbers are wrong as also we have been preaching for years, downloads might be illegal but 90% of it does not actually mean any loss for the industry... The loss is coming from people who stop buying because they can no longer afford it and too often are dissapointed on what they got back for their hard earned cash...
Don't even get me started on wages and such... I usully get very unfriendly when someone says actors actually earn what they are paid...
The world has gone nuts driven by money hunger...
It will get worse before it gets any better...
Popcorn Hour prepping trio of new media streamers? {Engadget HD}
May 21st 2008 11:59PM Message wasn't supposed to be covered in news already as all PCH did was send announcement and target pricing info to some resellers. we also not verified all the specs and such and heard about "mistakes" made in communication so it's hard to make an accurate news article now. We look into sending some images and information over to you guys during next week when we actually can see and verify all the goods....
Here's what I know so far (unverified and subject to changes)
A-110: USB Slave / SATA / HDMI 1.1
B-110: Home Theatre main Board based on feedback, comments and targetted for the hobbyist to create it's own HTPC style case and be a bit active around modding and making it's own casing (also a casing could be provided).
IDE / USB Slave / HDMI 1.3 / MINI ITX factor Optical / Coaxial / Mini PCI
Player is internally references as "hi-jack hour"
A-112: SATA / USB Slave / HDMI 1.3 cube casing with LCD
S-200A: 2GB Flash, Black player, HDMI 1.1 and VGA, UART port (signage)
WN-100: USB Wireless N USB dongle (20Mbps capped for now)
If you want more, keep an eye on the news here and MPC during next week. This is all we know. Unless there are changes to be made, it is believed these players will make it around summer holidays (mid to end June 2008)
Chips are not communicated but we expect SMP8634/5 and maybe an older one in one of the units... We don't know yet but will know soon :-)
Enjoy

Popcorn Hour prepping trio of new media streamers? {Engadget HD}
May 21st 2008 3:41PM There will be 4 actually :-) and a USB Wireless N stick...
I'm leaving for Malaysia Saturday for a visit up there and will bring back with me a report on the first hands on experience and details on the units...
Most interesting for now is the "ITX" form factore design board which can be used in mini PC's... how this will play out I don't know but it will be fun exploring... Further enhancement include USB slave probably and such but not any new chips announced... so all will remain around the 8634/35 with hardware improvements and some extra touches here and there...
Enjoy

Popcorn Hour's Networked Media Tank seen early {Engadget}
Oct 13th 2007 1:02AM It's the wrong image. The design has changed but can't be revealed. We are launching pictures of the mini design board today (internal board) which are real. We can't yet release the design though.
Even if this design had been used before, the internals are different so you can't judge on external esign what a player will become ryos...
