Poll: Do you own / plan to own an HTPC? {Engadget HD}

Jul 5th 2008 12:40PM Sure do! MythTV all the way. Main server is connected to my Theather with projector and I also have a remote fronted in my living room.

TWC implementing switched digital video in Kansas City {Engadget HD}

Jul 3rd 2008 11:44AM Awesome maybe they can get a decent HD lineup now.....

44 Digital SD station gives room for ~10 more HD stations right? (44/3-4.6)

From my understanding 1 HD streams takes the bandwidth of 3 SD digital stations. So they should be able to add 10 HD stations (not on SDV) and they have the 44 crappy stations listed using the remaining 4-5 channels.

Netflix reverses decision, Profiles here to stay {Engadget HD}

Jul 1st 2008 12:38PM personally i never use netflix to find movies. They always hide the new releases or big releases in all kinds of crap. If you go to the new releases tab you will see movies that are a year old! They are just trying to distract you from picking the popular ones.

Sure Movie stores do the same thing (mix old ones in the new releases) but they also have a huge wall of a 100 boxes for the blockbuster of the week.

With netflix its just a bunch of pics. This is why i go to imdb or view the blu ray releases.

Poll: Do you tune into OTA programming? {Engadget HD}

Jun 28th 2008 7:00PM I use OTA exclusively. I record all the good shows with MythTV so i have more than enough content to satisfy my needs. Then, with the extra money I save I buy extra Home Theater gear, like my newly purchased Samsung BD-P1500, which btw is amazing!

SlySoft keeps AnyDVD HD current, circumvents latest BD+ {Engadget HD}

Jun 18th 2008 6:12PM I wonder how long it will be if ever that BD association just gives up created new forms of BD+. Every change they make may require a firmware update on a player. Consumers are not going to except that every time they play a new disc they must spend 30mins updating their player. Heck were complaining about the upsurd (~30-90secs) it takes to start a movie. DRM will always be a cat and mouse game with the circumvention.

all in all a big waste of time for all parties involved.

Blu-ray players to outsell DVD decks by August? Not likely. {Engadget HD}

May 28th 2008 4:29PM this is the craziest story i have read in a while. Supply limited? I could go to BB right now and see ~15 boxes of BD players!

If this is truly going to happen I cant wait because if it does that means the current price of BD players will be half of what they are today + fully featured audio profiles I may actually buy one. (~$200)

Given the absolute insane statement above most likely wont come true we will be in the same situation in 3 months but maybe by X-mas 08 this could happen but highly unlikely IMHO.

Poll: Are you waiting for a Tuning Adapter? {Engadget HD}

May 24th 2008 1:23PM Cable? who needs cable? OTA, the best bang for the buck when you want to watch ALOT of HD.

Poll: What's your favorite HD movie channel? {Engadget HD}

May 22nd 2008 4:10PM where is the choice for none. I love HD material but I dont own a BD player (due to the crazy high price) or pay for cable tv. OTA all the way!

With that said when BD comes to a reasonable $ i will get one (

Tuning adapters hit CableLabs testing lair, still not ready for public consumption {Engadget HD}

May 20th 2008 1:28PM What is the big deal with these TA? Is any provider even using SDV yet? Is anyone missing out on recording HD cause there cable comp. uses SDV? I thought SDV was a thing in the future.

Just wondering...
