Yes, Sony's BDP-S1 is delayed; Blu-ray isn't {Engadget HD}
Jun 14th 2006 10:30AM Would the delay have anything to do with the new HDMI standard discussed yesterday? Why would anyone want to purchase a Blu-ray player now if it doesn't support HDMI 1.3? But then again, chances are that no one has a tv or a receiver that would support HDMI 1.3 anyway so it is a moot point.
HDMI version 1.3 approved {Engadget HD}
Jun 13th 2006 2:07PM I am a little confused and hope someone can help clear this up for me. When HDMI v1.3 comes out, will it replace the current HDMI? The reason I ask is that I will be buying a new receiver (I am condidering the Denon 4306 for it's HDMI switching and upconverting of non HD signals) and wonder now if I should wait. Is this a firmware update or do you have to wait until receivers supporting HDMI v1.3 are released? Thanks to anyone who can help!!

Sharp AQUOS LCDs pass 10 million units mark {Engadget HD}
Jun 5th 2006 11:20AM I have a 32" Sharp Aquos LCD in my bedroom and I think it is a great tv. The design is very simple and it looks really good mounted on the wall with the speaker removed. The only knock I have on the Aquos line is that they are quite a bit more expensive than other LCDs.

Jun 2nd 2006 12:05PM Ok, I get it now. But I didn't think this was a new feature. The Denon AVR 4306 does this as well, at least according to this c/net review:

I also wonder whether the scaler on either of these receivers is better than a scaler in a nice tv. If the tv scaler is better, it would be better just to pass the non-HD signal through as is and just let the tv handle the up-scaling. The quality of the scaler varies in hdtv's and you tend to get what you pay for, but I guess the only way to tell is to try scaling it both ways and see which one looks better.

Jun 2nd 2006 11:09AM Does this mean that other receivers with HDMI pass-through will not pass-through a 1080p signal? It seems like they should since they are just passing through the signal and not actually proccessing it. Anyone know the answer to this?

Royal Caribbean Cruise install HDTVs in their ships {Engadget HD}
May 15th 2006 10:53AM Too bad there won't be any actual HD content displayed on these tv's. That's pretty standard in the hotel industry, and I can't imagine it would be any different on a cruise ship.
Hotels buy LCD tv's and the guests get excited about them and think they are seeing a great picture, but in reality, watching standard definition they would get a better picture with a run of the mill tube television.
